Department Overview

The objective of this position is to develop advanced imaging processing tools (including deep learning-based approaches) which help clinical scientists conduct research in the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases using advanced imaging technologies such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA). This requires maintaining current knowledge of the pertinent literature, signal/image processing development to illuminate specific research questions. A significant percent effort will be placed on developing novel data processing toolkits, validating developed image processing software with clinical fellows, preparing patent disclosure, writing and preparing presentations and manuscripts. Additionally, a portion of the effort will be dedicated to training junior data scientist, providing deep learning and digital processing expertise to guide junior fellow, and taking a leading role in communication on OCT and OCTA grading projects.

 

Pay Range: $61,318.40 - $97,968.00, Commensurate with Experience

Function/Duties of Position

  • Areas of research interest include clinical study design, control of image quality, image processing, image grading, control of data quality and completeness, missing data analysis, diagnostic accuracy analysis, longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, regression analysis, disease progression analysis, and machine learning based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography technologies. Give presentations of research results. Lead the communication on OCT and OCTA reading research projects.
  • Preparation of manuscript for journal publications, papers and grant applications.
  • Teach image processing, image grading, and statistics to research and clinical trainees. 

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in relevant field AND 1 year of relevant experience OR 

  • Master's Degree in relevant field AND  5 years of relevant experience OR 

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 9 years of relevant experience

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills are critical. 

  • The successful candidate must be able to work well independently and assume responsibility for specific phases of research projects.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and working well with team members are essential.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking is essential. 

  • Familiarity with image processing, image grading, research design, statistics and using computers for research is highly desirable.

  • Expert knowledge of statistical programming languages. 

  • A working knowledge of common computer software, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 

  • Ability to work independently; willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model. 

  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree in Ophthalmology, Biomedical Engineering or related
  • 3+ years of work experience, or equivalent in thesis research and other research projects.

  • Experience in image grading, image analysis, clinical data analysis, and clinical study design is desirable.

Additional Details

Must be able to travel between clinic locations using stairs, elevators and tram. OHSU encourages use of public transportation for commuting to and from work due to limited staff parking.
