Department Overview

Cascade Life Alliance (CLA) is the federally designated organ procurement organization (OPO) with our clinical teams serving 85 hospitals in Oregon, southwest Washington, and western Idaho. Our staff of nearly 100 provide organ recovery services to the hospitals within our geographical area and transplant centers nationally.

 

Our organization operates 24/7/365 and has remote offices in Boise, Idaho, Southern Oregon as well as staff stationed across our service area. The duties of this position are in support of the mission and goals of Cascade Life Alliance, “to save, enhance, and heal lives through organ donation and transplantation".

This position is a hybrid position based out of the Portland, Oregon office and is responsible for maintaining, deploying, troubleshooting and training staff in dept. specific technology and equipment. This position works in collaboration with OHSU, CLA TI Specialist, Business Intelligence Analysts, and vendors. The ideal candidate is skilled at assisting individuals with different levels of technical skill and does so with compassion, patience and flexibility. This role requires a strong desire to work closely with and be a strong advocate and representative for the end-user; which may include trialing resources, creating tailored training, or support based on feedback received from end users.


This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and industry information systems regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of IT controlled documents, security audits, orientation, dept. employee portal, EMR, and training resources. Other responsibilities include IS process improvement project development and implementation and collaborating with the IT Specialist position in addition to covering dept. responsibilities during dept. shortages or PTO.

Function/Duties of Position

Controlled Document Development & Compliance

  • Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance of controlled IT documents including policies, procedures, job aids, and technical standards in alignment with OHSU, industry, local, and federal regulations.
  • Complete periodic reviews and audits of documentation for accuracy and relevance.

IS Project Management

  • Lead and coordinate IS related projects, including software security reviews, implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Define project scope, timelines, deliverables, and resource requirements.
  • Track project progress, mitigate risks, and ensure timely delivery of outcomes prioritizing IS security

Education & Support

  • Develop and deliver new hire and employee training.
  • Host occasional basic education sessions (e.g., "What is the Internet", "Computer Tips and Tricks", "Basic Online Security").
  • Provide user application support (Outlook, Excel, Power BI Online, WebEx phone calling and recording, etc.).
  • Develop and provide basic IT education modules and resources, including tailored education for staff in need of additional support.
  • Maintain and develop IT-related content for the internal SharePoint site.
  • Be available for in-person and remote support, with potential to travel to other locations in our service area covering Idaho, Oregon, and SW Washington.

Triaging and Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot equipment and software as needed.
  • Triage, delegate, and complete IT-related CLA Technical Assistance Tickets and OHSU IT tickets.
  • Collaborate with the OHSU Information Technology Group (ITG) for resolution of technical issues.
    Schedule and host drop-in office hours for tech support.
  • Maintain smooth and efficient support for staff spread across the country.

Maintenance

  • Collaborate with vendors to establish routine maintenance, deployment plans, software upgrades, and organize required training.
  • Research new software applications as assigned.
  • Design, develop, and document new applications, equipment, or technology workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and two years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and four years work related experience in the information technology field  or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and five years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

  • Six years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.

  • Some positions may require certifications to be achieved within 6 months of hire.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Experience in customer service or technical help desk experience
  • Experience with SharePoint content development and maintenance
  • Hands-on experience with asset management systems and software security assessments and
    deployment. 
  • Development of training materials, resources, documentation, policies, job aids, SOPs, or procedures.
  • Experience overseeing security for an EMR or systems storing protected or sensitive information in
    accordance with HIPAA
  • Experience developing and delivering technical training for diverse audiences in person and remotely.
  • Experience overseeing or maintaining a complex ticketing system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years’ experience in the Information Technology field
  • Experience leading IS projects
  • Experience in healthcare or professional settings
  • Experience delivering training and presenting
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Experience with settings involving PHI and confidential information.
  • Current driver's license
  • Experience at an Organ Procurement Organization or closely related field.

Additional Details

This position is based at CLA headquarters located in Portland, Oregon and is a hybrid position, with a set schedule during business hours on M-F. Schedule specifics to be determined with final candidate, however may require an in-office presence full time during orientation. This position may require travel to our remote locations or be on call/operate outside business hours in case of software or equipment deployment. This is not an on-call position outside of prescheduled and preplanned coverage.
