The Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology comprises specialists dedicated to providing the best possible care for patients with cancer and blood disorders.   

 

Our Community Hematology Oncology section (CHO), is focused on keeping patients close to home while receiving high-quality university care.  

Function/Duties of Position

The Knight Cancer Institute, Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology is seeking two (2) Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) who will support the Community Hematology Oncology clinics in our Beaverton, NW Portland, Tualatin, East Portland, and Gresham locations.

Location: Multiple sites in Portland, OR and the surrounding areas 

Schedule: 10 hour shifts, 4 days per week, may include weekends and holidays 

 

Position Summary:  

This position will see patients in the Community Hematology Oncology (CHO) section, covering ambulatory, infusion, and hospital areas across multiple sites all days of the week. 

 

Clinical duties include:  

  • Address urgent needs and evaluate the patient situation and determine the tolerance of the treatment; 
  • Review labs and modify orders as needed 
  • See new patients in conjunction with attending physician; 
  • Write chemotherapy orders when treatment plan has been initiated by attending physician in compliance with credentialed privileges 
  • Manage patient anticoagulation, as appropriate 
  • Respond to nurse questions and patient situation in the infusion room  
  • Work closely with phone triage staff to manage patient issues and problems and see patients as add-on/walk-ins, as appropriate 
  • Admit patients to community hospitals. as appropriate in collaboration with attending physician 
  • Round on patients in community hospitals, as requested by attending physician in compliance with community hospital credentialed privileges. 
  • On call only as back-up for attending physician during weekdays. 

 

Research duties include:  

  • Assist in identifying patients eligible for clinical trials 
  • Participate in research projects as appropriate 
  • Use research and evidence-based practice in the delivery of quality patient care. 

 

Educational duties include:

  • Participates in the development of patient education tools and programs 
  • Provides individualized patient education on aspects of Oncology 
  • Assumes responsibility for educating others on aspects of Oncology and hematologic malignancies. 
  • Participates in the teaching of medical students, house staff and fellows 

Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Current and active Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon
  • State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges
  • DEA certificate
  • ANCC (or equivalent) certification

Physician Assistant:

  • Current and active Physician Assistant license for the State of Oregon
  • DEA certificate

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more year of experience as an APP 
  • One or more year of experience in oncology  
  • Experience working in research and with experimental therapeutics
  • Experience with EPIC and Beacon
  • Exposure to clinical trial research
