Department Overview

This position assists the CSPD Director in planning, organizing, managing and directing the activities over 4

Sterile Processing Units located in KPV, DCH, CHH2, and MPV GI Endoscopy. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining compliance in sterilization and/or high level disinfection standards of practice for the entire organization.

 

This position establishes and maintains effective relationships with the Perioperative leadership team, surgical

staff, physicians, administration, other departments and external agencies to identify expectations, determine

targets, design or modify processes, and monitor and evaluate the results leading to additional improvement.

Function/Duties of Position

Human Resources Management

  • Collaborates with the CSPD leaderhip team and Human Resources in the recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Oversees, coordinates, and collaborates with department Educator in staff training and ensure maintenance of competency to ensure adequate skill levels within the department
  • Manages human resources according to the hospital policies and procedures, labor laws, and collective bargaining contract.
  • Works closely with the CSPD leadership team in ensuring the correct contract interpretation, timely completion of staff performance appraisals, instituting progressive discipline appropriately, and responding to grievances.
  • Collaborates with the CSPD leadership team in resolving work related issues such as attendance, performance, interpersonal conflicts, schedules, work loads, and personal concerns related to work.
  • Works closely with the CSPD leadership team in the completion of all mandatory education requirements, continuing education in-services, certification requirements, regulatory requirements, and other activities within established timelines.
  • Serves as a professional role model and mentor to staff by responding positively to change while supporting the organization and/or department throughout the change process.
  • Maintains personal and professional growth and contributes to the professional development of staff.

Supports the System

  • Assists and supports the CSPD Director in the planning, growth and expansion of the department to include new techniques, technology and processes.
  • Works collaboratively with the other Managers/Supervisors in managing the scheduling and allocation of staffing resources throughout the four CSPD sites.
  • Works collaboratively with other Perioperative managers in creating a united leadership team for day-to-day operations and future goals.
  • Participates as a leader, facilitator, and/or member of management meetings/committees, and other organization-wide meetings. 
  • Creates a positive climate for organizational change initiatives. 
  • Acts as an internal and external role model in supporting, promoting, and adhering to OHSU's mission, vision, philosophy, and Code of Conduct
  • Communicates in a respectful non-blaming manner to assure intra- and inter- departmental cooperation and problem-solving.
  • Adheres to and assures compliance, within scope of responsibility, with OHSU Code of Conduct, OHSU policies, rules and regulations.
  • Performs staff member requirements as outlined in the Compliance Section of the Core Competencies. Incorporates the principles of OHSU's Mission Statement into performance

Fiscal Management

  • Assist and support the CSPD Director in developing and monitoring the departmental operating budget by meeting budget submission deadlines and expectations, monitoring and reporting variances, and meeting or exceeding budget expectations.
  • Continually assesses opportunities for increasing productivity by setting productivity standards and goals, and monitoring for compliance and benchmarks.
  • Works collaboratively with the CSPD Director in identifying, requesting, and utilizing all resources (space, capital equipment personnel, etc.) in a fiscally sound and organizationally efficient and effective manner by meeting capital
  • budget submission deadlines and expectations, developing and maintaining staffing plans, and appropriately utilizing and requesting space.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent of a combination of education and Sterile Processing experience.
  • Certification as CRCST (HSPA) or CSPDT (CBSPD)
  • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or lead role in Sterile Processing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL), Certification in Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing (CFER/CER)

Additional Details

This position will supervise the activities and responsibilities of the CSPD Dayshift staff. Flexibility in working hours that may extend more than 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week as needed.
