The Fire Sprinkler Inspector performs testing, inspection, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with applicable codes and standards. The role includes documenting system conditions, deficiencies, and necessary improvements through clear and detailed inspection reports.
This position also upholds a high level of professionalism by communicating findings and recommendations clearly and effectively. Capable of completing complex and specialized testing, maintenance tasks, and troubleshooting associated with the following systems: including but not limited to wet systems, dry systems, preaction systems, hydrants, fire pumps, and standpipes. Troubleshooting equipment and/or system failures, supervising vendors when necessary, and interfacing with customers.
The senior technician in fire systems is expected to work independently without supervision and have experience with the skilled use of all necessary hand and power tools.
Normal duties require 40 hours per week. Position requires that the incumbent respond to on-call assignments, overtime and after-hours call backs as needed.
Conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, walking, standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time, lifting and carrying heavy objects, crawling in small, cramped spaces, working from ladders, scaffolds, and other above ground locations including high, sloping roofs, working in extreme temperatures, working around moving machinery and in confined spaces, working in environments containing dust, odor, high levels of noise, exposure to dirt, biological, chemical, and radiological hazards, danger of steam and hot water burns, electric shock, infection, and minor injuries.
Employees are required to use all applicable OSHA approved safety apparatus when working around any hazardous condition or environment. The incumbent must be able to respond and help contain emergency situations (storm, earthquake, explosion, utility interruption, catastrophic equipment failure, etc.) and, therefore, must be able to work as needed in any of the conditions described.
