Function/Duties of Position

This position will work in the Jungers Center for Neurosciences Research under the lab of Dr. Ben Emery, investigating neurodegeneration and plasticity in the context of animal models of demyelination. The candidate will work closely with other lab members on their projects and would ideally be competent at handling mice and able to perform a number of experimental laboratory techniques including DNA isolation and agarose gel electrophoresis, small animal dissections, tissue processing, histology and microscopy. The candidate will also contribute to the general organization and maintenance of the laboratory and mouse colony. An undergraduate background and/or research experience in neuroscience is highly desirable.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, OR Associate’s AND 3 years of relevant experience, OR 4 years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Ability to work independently on an assigned project, multitask and keep good records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in biology, biochemistry or neurobiology
  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience
  • Some experience with tissue culture and animal handing.
  • Ability to perform a number of experimental laboratory techniques including small animal handling, tissue processing, molecular biology (DNA isolation, PCR and agarose gel electrophoresis), recombinant DNA techniques, immunohistochemistry, microscopic imaging and image analysis.

Working Conditions: The job will require working in a standard biological laboratory and handling some harmful chemicals
