Department Overview

Cell biology research investigating the mechanistic effects of maternal obesity, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes on placental function and mitochondrial respiration in human trophoblast cells in relation to adverse pregnancy outcomes including stillbirth.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Microscopic and gross tissue dissection, preservation, processing, sectioning
  • DNA purification, genotyping, MaxiPreps, PCR reactions, western blotting
  • Design of experiments, preparation, interpretation and presentation of data
  • Immunohistochemical staining methods, western blotting, ELISA
  • Primary cell culture
  • Excel type database maintenance
  • Ordering and organizing lab stocks

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with major courses in field of research, biology, or chemistry

    OR

    Associate’s degree and 2 years relevant experience.
