Department Overview

A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated candidate to contribute to our discovery program.  The successful candidate will perform studies in transgenic and knockout mice to dissect mechanisms underlying electrolyte homeostasis. Much of the work involves examining mouse kidneys using techniques such as the Isolation of Nuclei Tagged in specific Cell Types to enrich for single nucleus RNA-seq and performing transcriptomic analysis, using R and tools such as Seurat. We use mouse models treated with diuretics and other drugs for metabolic cage studies, Western blotting, immunofluorescence and kidney tissue clearing, Candidates with a doctoral degree and training and demonstrated competence in bioinformatics and snRNA-seq, are especially encouraged to apply.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Participation in research studies, including maintenance and characterization of the renal physiology (renal injury, blood pressure and metabolic pathways) in transgenic and knockout mice and disease models. Microsurgical procedures, post-operative care, and metabolic cage studies will be performed.  Analysis of protein expression, transcriptomic analyses, tissue clearing and morphometrics, and metabolic cage studies are central.
  • Perform experimental design and data interpretation.
  • Preparation of manuscripts for publication, abstracts for presentation.  Full participation in Division and lab research activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Medicine, Physiology, or Pharmacology
  • Prior relevant experience in basic science laboratory. Experience in transcriptomics and RNA-Seq
  • Coding in R
  • Analysis using Seurat

Preferred Qualifications

  • MD/PhD
  • Experience with mouse models of kidney disease
  • 2 or more published papers in peer-reviewed journals, especially if relevant to kidney

Additional Details

  • General work schedule will be flexible, Monday-Friday (5 days/week). This position requires working with and handling animal models, research bench chemicals and reagents, and animal tissue/fluids.
