The MA represents and supports the Department of Pediatrics, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (DCH), Ambulatory Care Services, Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) and its faculty and staff by providing excellent customer service through prompt and professional communication skills, face-to-face customer contact skills, telephone skills and excellent problem-solving skills. Always performs as a true team player that helps when/where needed. 

Hours will vary, Monday- Friday 7:30AM to 5:30PM

Number of patients seen will be dependent on the practices and patients’ needs. The Pediatric Ambulatory Care practice provides age appropriate care to the age groups indicated: Infants (0-1 yr), Toddlers (1-4 yrs), Preschoolers (4-6 yrs), School-age (6-12 yrs), and Adolescents (12-22 yrs) and older, if necessary.

Function/Duties of Position

The Medical Assistant 1 assists providers in the care and treatment of patients in the Eugene location of the Child Development & Rehabilitation Center. 

 

The medical assistant provides a full range of duties and support as part of the medical care team, including MD, RN, NP, residents, fellows, patients and families, as well as additional learners and professionals involved in the practice.  This position functions within the medical assistant scope of practice as defined by OHSU.  Primary duties of this position include rooming, collecting patient vital signs, point of care testing, documentation in EHR, maintaining clinic flow, stocking exam rooms, assisting with procedures and treatments, coordinating clinical communication such as MyChart, fax, lab order, and refill routing.  Provides service excellence, kindness, and compassion to all, including patients, visitors, and other OHSU team members. Participates in ongoing professional development and competency assessment and participates in ongoing quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.  Performs requirements for staff members as outlined in OHSU Core Competencies, policies, and procedures.

 

Medical Assistant positions are represented by the AFSCME union. Incentives include:

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current BLS certification at hire from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • One of the following three:
    1. Completion of a nationally recognized accredited medical assistant training program, including a practicum (externship) of at least 160 hours, OR
    2. Successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, OR
    3. Current Oregon Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license (basic or advance) and an active national EMT registration with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT.)
  • For those completing medical assistant training or formal military medical services training as referenced above  in #1 and #2, the following is also required (Those qualifying under the EMT qualification are exempt from this requirement.)
    • Currently, these include: 
      • The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), awarding the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
      • The American Medical Technologists (AMT), awarding the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
      • The National Center for Competency Testing, awarding the National Certified MA (NCMA)
      • The National Health Career Association, awarding the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
      • The American Registry of Medical Assistants, awarding the Registered Medical Assistant (R.M.A.) – for those qualifying through #2 above only.
    • Medical Assistant (MA) certification received from a nationally recognized and accredited certifying body, upon hire or by the completion of the 6 month probationary period or internal job change evaluation period, as appropriate. Must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Must have relevant work history or have completed EMT or MA schooling within the past 5 years
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
