Department Overview

Doernbecher Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 46-bed level IV, regional referral center, providing care for a patient population of critically ill, convalescing and growing premature and term newborns. Admissions come from our own high-risk perinatal department, as well as transports from other hospitals in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Hawaii. Department Specific Working Conditions: Provide continuing care and monitoring of NICU patients in locations outside of the NICU including MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Upper GI, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, etc.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Ordering and keeping the NICU stocked with the appropriate patient care supplies as determined by Par levels and unit needs. Stocks patient rooms/Pod Carts and prepares admission beds. The HA helps to prepare the NICU to accept the next admission this may include duties essential for preparing a bed space and bed for an emergent admission. Collaborates with management staff to assure that Par levels are adjusted as utilization changes.
  • Performs unit specific tasks that contribute to overall operations and regualtory compliance such as Hearing Screens, Case Management support and quality data collection as directed.
  • Transporting unsterile supplies to the Sterile Processing Department. Cleaning and maintaining patient care equipment such as IV poles, isolettes, infant warmers, bedside tables. The HA monitors hallway clearance and assists with maintaining an infection free EOC in the NICU. Performs function of the HUC position to include all items within that job description including but not limited to: Processing orders, answering telephones, receptionist duties, preparing admission packets
  • All percentages within this description are flexible based upon the needs of the unit.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Computer keyboarding
  • Customer Service Oriented
  • Communication and Telephone skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 Year as Hospital Aide and/or HUC experience

Additional Details

Requires prioritization of multiple projects, activities, and assignments.Frequent interruptions in an evironment of frequent change and fluctuations.May be exposed to excessive auditory and visual stimulation. May be exposed to body fluids, tissue, possible radiation exposure, and infectious processes.Subject to computer work for several hours, as needed.Able to utilize office equipment within work area.
