Department Overview

This position is responsible for providing operational support within OHSU Simulation programs with a focus on clinical skills training of healthcare professionals. This position works in the OHSU Simulation Center in the Robertson Life Sciences Building, which is a 20,000 square foot facility. This position is responsible for collaborating with OHSU Simulation Operations teams across OHSU simulation locations (including the hill) and its partner institutions. This position partners directly with OHSU simulation staff on facilitating clinical skills labs, manikin-based simulations, and technology and operations-based projects and tasks, as needed. The center provides services for all of the educational and hospital programs at OHSU. This includes the Undergraduate Medical Education programs in which skills for the following are completed: administers MMI's, OSCE's, CPX's, Physical Exam's, IPE training and all other standardized clinical teaching and simulation experiences within the four-year medical school curriculum. In our interprofessional facility this position partners closely with the OHSU Simulation clinical skills and hifi teams in service of the learners and in support of legislative expectations, such as 303030 and other programmatic growth.

Function/Duties of Position

1. Skills Team Support

  • Partners with skills lab coordinator and the skills team.
  • Prepares and facilitates skills lab sessions in MRISC.
  • Provides day-of direct user support during clinical skills lab events.
  • Locates and manages medical supplies needed to enhance delivery of clinical skills activities (e.g. pharmacy drugs, dressings).
  • Operates and Maintains Medical Equipment (i.e. life‐support systems, physiologic monitors, ultrasound machines, and IV pump systems) and clinical task trainers.
  • Partners with faculty with troubleshooting medical technologies during skills events.
  • Provides user orientation and support for Medical Equipment and Clinical Task Trainers including low/mid fidelity simpad run manikins, as needed.
  • Assists with review of Medical Equipment and Clinical Task Trainers Inventory.
  • Collaborates with vendors to borrow additional manikins, task trainers, etc. to meet course objectives.
  • Assists with acquiring and returning additional equipment borrowed from the hospital, for simulation center activities including transportation and servicing as appropriate.
  • Coordinates outgoing and processes incoming Medical Equipment and Clinical Task Trainer equipment loans for OHSU training events. 

2. Manikin-Based Simulation Team Support

  • Collaborates with manikin-based simulation team to provide additional relief support with:
    • Pulling supplies
    • Prepping/striking for simulation and skills events
    • Creating simulated medications
    • Creating moulage
    • Assisting with day-of-event support; theater turnover, embedded participant, supply runner, etc., as needed. 

3. Simulation Operations Projects & Tasks

  • In collaboration with the Administrative Assistant, Senior Trainer, and System Application Analyst, assists with operational projects or tasks, as directed.
  • Assists in completing projects or processes that come from Team Agreement Meetings–directed by Skills Lab Coordinator and/or Senior SimOps Trainer.
  • Assists and serves as back up to critical supply ordering and managing inventory or supplies.
  • Assists with granular level maintenance and care on clinical equipment and task trainers on a bi-weekly basis including checking consumable and replaceable supply inventory.
  • Inspects skills task trainers monthly to establish functionality any repairs needed, as directed by Skills Lab Coordinator.
  • Assists with training faculty and simulation team on clinical equipment and task trainers when FTE skills team members need additional backup.
  • Assisting with asset management and capital inventory
  • Operates Debrief Room and Classroom A/V technology such as the classroom projectors, speakers, and Crestron A/V switcher devices.
  • Provides user orientation and support for the A/V technology, as needed. 

Required Qualifications

  • Three years of experience administering or coordinating parts or subsets of a project or program.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or a field directly related to the position will substitute for two years of the required experience.

  • Experience working with and troubleshooting A/V equipment.

  • Experience working with web-based computer technology.

  • Experience working with multimedia service and support with direct customer contact.

  • Experience working with higher education faculty & professional students.

  • Experiences with collaborating with multiple departments and coordination of meetings.

  • Demonstrates successful work experience with database systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and the ability to work with diverse groups; students, faculty, staff, and IT group.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors’s Degree and/or related experience.
  • Experience working with healthcare professional students.

  • Experience working with simulation web-based computer technology.

  • Experience working with healthcare professional education, including faculty & students.

  • Experience with a web- based AV system such as SimCapture.

Additional Details

Monday through Friday. Flexibility to work irregular hours as needed. Includes occasional evenings.

 

While there are guaranteed upfront training hours, beyond that this position is a relief role and hours will vary. There is not a guarantee for specific numbers of hours each pay period. Hours will depend on team coverage needs and programmatic support/expectations. It is important that this employee is flexible and able to come in to provide relief both for scheduled back fill team support needs and also for last minute coverage needs, in case of unexpected illnesses of team members.
