Department Overview

An NIH-funded research position is available in the Department of Chemical Physiology and Biochemistry at the Oregon Health & Science University, Portland Oregon, to study ion channel regulation in health and disease.

 

Highly motivated individuals with training in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology are welcome to apply. Applicants should send a cover letter describing research experience and interests, a curriculum vitae, and the contact information of three references.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Molecular biology/biochemistry/cell biology bench work.

  • Perform electrophysiology experiments and analyze data.
  • Attend and participate in lab meetings and make contributions to publications.

Required Qualifications

Research Assistant 2

  • Bachelors in a relevant field; OR
  • Associates and 3 years of relevant experience; OR
  • 4 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.

Senior Research Assistant

  • Bachelor's in relevant field and 1 year of relevant experience; OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required for Both

  • Research experience in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell culture.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using common scientific software for writing, data analysis, and statistics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in STEM.
  • Advanced degrees or certificates in the field of cell biology, molecular biology, or membrane biophysics are welcome to apply.
  • Electrophysiology, cryoEM, and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Demonstrated multitasking ability and research productivity through publications.

Additional Details

Work is generally 40 hours per week during normal working hours (between 8:00am - 6:00pm). However, evening and weekend work is expected as needed.

 

Additional safety training will be required to work with cell lines/ viruses in a BSL-2 environment.
