Department Overview

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is organized into three sections: adult cardiac surgery, general thoracic surgery and pediatric cardiac surgery. Faculty members in each of these sections are experts in their field and specialize in the surgical treatment of advanced heart and lung disease. They work in conjunction with the OHSU Division of Vascular Surgery, as well as the Knight Cancer Institute, the Knight Cardiovascular Institute and Children's Hospital to provide comprehensive care. Active in research as well as education, the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery sponsors both a residency program and a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship program.

Function/Duties of Position

This position has a focused commitment in aortic procedures and pathology and participates in the Aorta Program at OHSU. This position includes active involvement in education for students, residents, fellows and staff. Duties also include participation in the administrative committees of OHSU and those in the Department of Surgery; engaging in public service for the benefit of OHSU; obtaining grants and gifts for study of cardiac disease; participating in other research at OHSU relating to cardiac disease processes and to provide patient care activities which fall under the scope of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at OHSU Hospital. In addition, you will provide patient care activities which fall under the scope of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at OHSU Hospital, PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center, and the Portland Veterans Administration Medical Center. The primary site for clinical duties is OHSU.


The primary responsibilities will be at Oregon Health & Science University with shared on-call responsibility with the rest of the Adult Cardiac Surgery faculty at OHSU Hospital, the Portland VAMC, and PeaceHealth SWMC.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced training or substantial experience with thoracic aortic procedures is preferred.
  • American Board of Thoracic Surgeons (ABTS) board certified or board eligible
  • Oregon and Washington medical licensure or eligibility for licensure
  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certification
  • Receipt of medical staff privileges at PHSWMC, OHSU and the Portland VAMC
