The Casey Eye Institute Operating Room (CEI OR) is recruiting for a 0.80 FTE Anesthesia Technician.
The Anesthesia Technician at CEI is responsible for daily tasks of anesthesia support in accordance with established policies and procedures. The technician provides assistance to anesthesiologist by maintaining and stocking anesthesia instruments and supplies for the operating rooms, assembling and setting up anesthesia equipment and assists the anesthesia provider in performing procedures. The technician works closely with the anesthesiologists, circulating RN and scrub staff to help ensure that their needs for equipment, medications and supplies are met in support of optimum patient care.
Anesthesia Equipment, Instrument and Supplies Maintenance: Checks inventory and if appropriate, requisitions and restocks supplies; rotates dated items on shelves; participates in equipment and supply evaluations; troubleshoots and maintains equipment and supplies and refers to Clinical Engineering for repair; prepares used instruments such as LMA's, laryngoscope blades for CSPD processing; cleans and sterilizes anesthesia machines and equipment after surgeries and performs necessary surface maintenance
Anesthesia Equipment Set Up: Monitors surgery schedule to ensure operating rooms are equipped with appropriate anesthesia supplies and equipment; checks anesthesia machines and monitors prior to surgery to assure they are ready for use; sets up anesthesia equipment prior to surgery including standard IV fluid; difficult airway supplies and equipment, and all other devices needed by anesthesia
Anesthesia procedures: Assist anesthesia provider with a wide variety of procedures following scope of practice.
Performs other duties as assigned: e.g. assists in transporting soiled instruments to CSPD; assists in transporting specimen to Central Lab / Microbiology / Pathology
Room Turnover: Supports the OR team in cleaning and preparing for each patient. This includes removing all contaminated items,wiping down all surfaces and equipment, re-setting up each location for the following case and re-stocking to be fully prepared for the next case.
National Certification as an Anesthesia Technician
OR
Associates degree or higher in a health-related field from an accredited institution of higher education with course work in Anatomy, Physiology and Chemistry
OR
Completed 2 years full-time college-level courses including Anatomy, Physiology and Chemistry
OR
2 years experience as an Anesthesia Technician
BLS certificate within 30 days of hire or prior to independent practice, whichever comes first
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, Good problem solving ability, Able to prioritize work and meet deadlines, Well organized with the ability to work independently and with a team, Capable of working quickly and accurately under pressure, Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Ophthalmology experience preferred.
National Certification as an Anesthesia Technician.
ACLS certification.
