Department Overview

Provide a safe, enriching environment, and build relationships for employees of designated companies at various locations. https://www.ohsu.edu/march-wellness

Function/Duties of Position

  • Responsible for organizing, supervising and implementing the medical exercise program.
  • Data and assessment tracking - perform Intakes and Outtake assessments.
  • Develop exercise programs and/or assign to the appropriate staff.
  • Proactively provide appropriate directions to participants performing dangerous or harmful exercises.
  • Communicate with participants via phone/email/in-person to improve program adherence.
  • Responsible for coordination of health, exercise and wellness strategies including but not limited to:
    • newsletter/social media accounts,
    • after work wellness activities,
    • coordinate with screenings and programs,
    • wellness fairs and satellite operations. 
  • Develop relationships and programs with other medical providers. 
  • Communicate member progress with providers through EPIC and email. 
  • Provide referrals for members to OHSU clinics and programs.
  • Provide wellness education sessions. Includes presenting materials and securing guest speakers/workshops.
  • Support existing programs and services, including but not limited to: front desk staff and group exercise class instruction.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for members. 
  • Greet members by name.
  • Respond to all emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in exercise science or related field.
  • Two years of experience in the fitness industry.

  • BLS HeartCode or CPR/AED certification.
  • Hold and maintain a NCCA accredited fitness certification, such as American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in exercise science or related field.
  • EIM credential.
  • Experience providing strength training, cardiovascular, and flexibility training principles and techniques.

  • Skill in exercise testing and evaluation of test data.

  • Experience in evaluating medications, contraindications and risk factors.

  • Experience in presenting wellness lectures/workshops/classes.
  • First Aid certification.

Additional Details

This position is located at the South Waterfront in Portland, OR. 

 

This position requires a high level of physical activity, including standing for extended periods of time, demonstrating equipment use, and spotting. Ability to lift a minimum of 80 pounds is essential.
