Department Overview

A postdoctoral position is available to investigate binaural spectral and temporal integration: how spectra, temporal envelopes, and spectro-temporal changes are fused and integrated between the ears, in adults with hearing aids, cochlear implants, or any combination of these devices. This position is supported for up to 3 years by an NIDCD/NIH R01 grant.

 

The Reiss laboratory is based in the Oregon Hearing Research Center (OHRC), the Department of Otolaryngology, Oregon Health and Science University, and the successful applicant will have opportunities to interact with researchers in topics including but not limited to cochlear mechanics, inner ear development, auditory synaptopathy, auditory brainstem processing, and auditory cortex (for more information about the OHRC, see http://www.ohsu.edu/ohrc/).

 

Individuals who hold a doctoral degree with training in the field of auditory neuroscience, experience in psychophysical experiments, and a strong engineering background with experience in signal processing and auditory modeling are especially qualified to apply.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Design and program experiments in C++ and/or MATLAB.
  • Conduct experiments with human subjects with normal-hearing, hearing aids, and cochlear implants.
  • Preparation of grant or fellowship applications. 
  • Preparation of publications describing research results and presentation of those results at scientific meetings. 
  • Mentor students and research staff in the lab.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering or related field 

  • Psychophysical experiments with human subjects

  • Programming in C++ and MATLAB,  signal processing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Auditory neuroscience 

Additional Details

Work schedule will be flexible based on experiment needs, such as when human subjects are scheduled for experiments.
