The School of Dentistry shares the mission of the Oregon Health & Science University to provide educational programs, basic and clinical research, and quality patient care and community programs. We strive to foster an environment of mutual respect where the free exchange of ideas can flourish. The dental school prepares graduates in general dentistry and the dental specialties to deliver compassionate and ethical oro-facial health care.
Dental Assistants at the SOD perform activities common to all dental assistants and when employed in a specialty dental clinic perform advanced dental activities requiring training and experience above that of a dental assistant. Dental assistants are employed within the SOD as either a Dental Assistant or Dental Assistant Advanced. The Dental Assistant Advanced requires prior experience as a dental assistant in a dental specialty or in the provision of specialty services.
The Dental Assistant Advanced position supports one or more specialty work units (clinic) within the School of Dentistry based upon clinical needs. The position requires flexibility and willingness to adapt to new situations and processes based upon the specific work unit (clinic) to which the DA is assigned. Work units are primarily housed at the SOD in the Robertson Life Sciences Building (RLSB) at the South Waterfront with an additional work unit at the Russell Street Clinic located in Northeast Portland. Limited travel to Russell Street Clinic when needed may be required. EFDA certification is highly encouraged.
