Department Overview

At March Wellness & Fitness Center we address the many dimensions of wellness – physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, financial, social and creative – that when combined make each of us unique. At march, members and health practitioners work together to develop a wellness program that draws on a variety of approaches, traditional and novel, to meet an individual's health needs. 

Function/Duties of Position

The Licensed Massage Therapist is responsible for administerring massage and body treatments, according to standard operating procedures. In addition, s/he is responsible for learning specialty services as requested by management. The Massage Therapist is required to build a repeat clientele of 5 guests per week, and actively participate in educational body skin care sales.

 

Typical duties and responsibilities will consist of:

 

Massage

  • Performs massage therapy techniques to control pain, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.
  • Confers with clients about their medical histories and any problems with stress and/or pain in order to determine whether massage would be helpful.
  • Applies finger and hand pressure to specific points of the body.
  • Massages and kneads the muscles and soft tissues of the human body in order to provide courses of treatment for medical conditions and injuries or wellness maintenance.
  • Prepares and blend soils, and applies the blends to clients' skin.
  • Provides clients with guidance and information about techniques for postural improvement, and stretching, strengthening, relaxation and rehabilitative exercises.
  • Assesses clients' soft tissue condition, joint quality and function, muscle strength, and range of motion.
  • Develops and proposes client treatment plans that specify which types of massage are to be used. Refers clients to other types of therapists when necessary.
  • Uses complementary aids, such as infrared lamps, wet compresses, ice, and whirlpool baths in order to promote clients' recovery, relaxation and well-being.
  • Consults with other health care professionals such as physiotherapists, chiropractors, physicians and psychologists in order to develop treatment plans for clients.

Administrative

  • Obtains the basic medical history for a client, assesses any problems or conditions, and suggests appropriate massage techniques based on current health of client.
  • Maintain treatment records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Oregon Massage Therapist License.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within massage therapy.
  • Working knowledge of anatomy and basic physiology.

  • BLS HeartCode or CPR/AED Certification required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience practicing massage therapy, preferably with existing clientele.
  • Minimum 500 hours of education.
  • Knowledge of two massage modalities: Swedish, Shiatsu, Sports, Reflexology, Cranial Sacral, Deep Tissue, Aromatherapy, Pre and post Natal.
  • A proven track record in delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Strong sales skills.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Knowledgeable about the latest developments in skin care technology.
  • Perform at least two continuous four-hour blocks of massage services.
