Department Overview

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking an OB/GYN Hospitalist at the Assistant Professor level. 

 

The Assistant Professor is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as an MD, with completion of an Ob/Gyn Residency, and independent surgical experience necessary to provide a full-scope practice.  The Assistant Professor is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws, and shall provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The Assistant Professor is expected to comply with all laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice. 

 

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, discovery, and patient care.

Function/Duties of Position

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research):

  • Provide an outstanding level of clinical performance on the inpatient labor and postpartum floor including working closely with a MFM, OBGYN Generalists and OBGYN residents. Additionally, provide services to the Emergency Department in all matters related to obstetrics and gynecologic services.  Responsibilities include:
  • Participation in the management of the antepartum, labor and postpartum floors for both low and high risk patients in an environment with a level 3 and 4 NICU; 2 practice sites include the main academic center and a community partner Evaluation and treatment of ED patients who present with women’s health concerns including both medical and surgical management

Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.):

  • Like all OHSU faculty members, Assistant Professors are expected to have some scholarly activity; this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. Assistant Professor faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.

Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught):

  • This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in Obstetrics and Gynecology rotations. The Assistant Professor may also help with clinical teaching of nurse and APP trainees. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the outpatient clinic environment, this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in obstetrics and gynecology.

Administrative Activities:

  • As an OHSU faculty member this position would be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level, and serve on OHSU committees and in other activities as requested by the department chair or division head in furtherance of division, department, or OHSU goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • MD degree
  • Oregon licensure
  • Completion of an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency
  • This position also requires the surgical experience necessary to perform a broad range of surgeries independently, and to instruct learners in surgery
  • Applicants must have the potential for academic accomplishment; and be board-certified or board-eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
