Department Overview

OHSU Mother Baby Unit (MBU) nurses provide high-quality, innovative, compassionate, and family-centered care to patients and their families. The Mother Baby Unit is a 27-bed unit that provides postpartum, antepartum, and gynecologic nursing care for low- and high-risk populations.

Function/Duties of Position

Intermediate care is provided to patients with complications and generally utilizes a 2 patient: 1 RN ratio care.

 

Our mission is to deliver family-centered, culturally responsive, high-quality, safe, and equitable care to every patient. Care is provided to postpartum mothers and their newborns, antepartum patients, and surgical gynecologic patients, including those with complex medical conditions and comorbidities.

 

Patient assignments are determined based on acuity and staffing needs, with a commitment to the patients and families. Through evidence-based practice and collaboration, we strive to promote positive outcomes and exceptional experiences for patients and families.

Required Qualifications

  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation
  • NRP within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year postpartum RN experience in a high-acuity care setting
  • Maternal Newborn, Inpatient Obstetric or other applicable specialty certification 

Additional Details

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
