Department Overview

The full-time annual base salary for this position is $407,648 - $493,608; commensurate with experience and rank. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for variable pay, estimated at $80,830 additional per year.

 

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine is integral to the healthcare, education and research missions at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). We specialize in providing excellent perioperative care and anesthesia services to our patients using state-of-the-art technology and pharmacologic tools with an emphasis on patient safety.

 

As Oregon's only academic health center, we perform the largest number of anesthetic procedures in the state on the most diverse types of surgical cases and procedures. We perform over 75,000 procedures each year in our inpatient adult operating rooms, outpatient operating rooms at the Center for Health & Healing, at Casey Eye Institute, and Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

 

The department is comprised of over 380 members including faculty physicians, resident physicians and certified nurse anesthetists, and is integral to the healthcare, education and research missions at OHSU. Function/Duties of Position

Clinical: The Adult Generalist Anesthesiologist works to care for critically ill and injured patients in the various anesthetizing locations throughout the OHSU campus.

 

Education: Teaches trainees and support staff in their area of professional expertise.  Teaching is done through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year and through teaching in the course of performing their own job by modeling best practices, mentoring trainees, guiding learning through delegating graduated and focused levels of responsibility.  Faculty have a demonstrated competence in teaching and are knowledgeable about relevant guidelines from all applicable regulating bodies. (e.g. ACGME competencies).

 

Research: May maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases.  May develop and direct scholarly research activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within anesthesiology and perioperative medicine. 

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in medicine and residency training in Anesthesiology
  • Fellowship training, for those interested in subspecialty care
  • Demonstrated competence in patient care and teaching
  • Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Anesthesiology
  • Interest and expertise in research/scholarship/discovery
