The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine is integral to the healthcare, education and research missions at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). We specialize in providing excellent perioperative care and anesthesia services to our patients using state-of-the-art technology and pharmacologic tools with an emphasis on patient safety.

As Oregon's only academic health center, we perform the largest number of anesthetic procedures in the state on the most diverse types of surgical cases and procedures. We perform over 75,000 procedures each year in our inpatient adult operating rooms, outpatient operating rooms at the Center for Health & Healing, at Casey Eye Institute, and Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital is home to one of the Pacific Northwest’s most active pediatric congenital heart programs, performing approximately 200 congenital cardiac surgeries and roughly 400 cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures each year. The successful candidate will join a close-knit team of four pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists and approximately 20 pediatric anesthesiologists who provide both cardiac and general pediatric anesthesiology care within a collegial, multidisciplinary program invested in clinical excellence, education, and growth.

Function/Duties of Position

The Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible pediatric anesthesiologist with at least 6 months of additional fellowship training in pediatric cardiac anesthesiology, or at least five years of pediatric cardiac anesthesiology experience, to join our growing team.

This is a unique opportunity to provide subspecialty anesthetic care for a high-acuity population of infants and children with congenital heart disease at one of the Pacific Northwest's leading academic medical centers. You will work alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of pediatric cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, cardiac intensivists, and perfusionists within a well-established congenital heart program, providing perioperative care in the cardiac operating room, hybrid cardiac catheterization lab/operating room, electrophysiology lab, and other anesthetizing locations. All members of the pediatric cardiac anesthesiology service also provide general pediatric anesthesiology care; adult patients with congenital heart disease are cared for by a separate service.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the University's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service

• Provide anesthetic care for infants and children undergoing cardiac surgery, catheter-based interventions, imaging, and electrophysiology procedures, as well as general pediatric surgical procedures
• Participate in perioperative planning and multidisciplinary care conferences with cardiac surgery, cardiology, and pediatric cardiac critical care teams
• Supervise and teach anesthesiology residents and pediatric anesthesiology fellows
• Participate in a shared call schedule for the cardiac anesthesia service
• Engage in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs within the congenital heart program
• Opportunity to participate in clinical or basic science research, medical education scholarship, or program development, commensurate with interest
• Academic appointment at Oregon Health & Science University commensurate with experience and qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Doctorate in medicine, ACGME-accredited residency training in Anesthesiology, and ACGME-accredited fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology.
• An additional 6-12 months of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology training or at least five years of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology experience is required.
• Demonstrated competence in patient care and teaching/mentorship.
• Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology are required.
• Ideal candidates will have interest and expertise in research/scholarship/discovery/administrative leadership.
