The School of Dentistry shares the mission of the Oregon Health & Science University to provide educational programs, basic and clinical research, and high quality care and community programs. Function/Duties of Position

The Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Systems provides visionary leadership with a focus on long-term strategic planning, innovation, and clinical growth within the School of Dentistry (SoD). Proactively positioning the clinical system to competitively respond to changes in the external marketplace and within OHSU Health, the Senior Associate Dean balances strategic decision-making, operational oversight, and motivational leadership. The role aligns the SoD clinical enterprise with OHSU Health goals while ensuring the specific mission of the SoD is met.

 

Working collaboratively with the Dean and the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Systems, this leader ensures the institution remains at the forefront of dental education, patient care, and technological innovation. As the senior-most clinical systems officer, this role holds final accountability for enterprise-wide clinical standards, accreditation, and governance; the Assistant Deans for Predoctoral Clinical Systems and Postdoctoral Clinical Systems execute these standards within their respective predoctoral and postdoctoral domains.

 

Success in this role is defined by measurable outcomes in clinical system effectiveness, alignment with the SoD and OHSU strategic plan, and stakeholder engagement, including:

  • System-wide Clinical Strategy Execution, % of annual strategic-plan milestones achieved
  • Accreditation & Compliance, % accreditation deliverables completed on time; no significant compliance findings
  • Enterprise Quality & Patient Safety, Annual improvement in quality and patient safety indicators; % recurring systemic deficiencies
  • Financial Stewardship, Clinical enterprise operates within budget; annual progress toward revenue goals
  • Patient Access & Clinical Capacity, Annual improvement in patient access, clinic utilization, and scheduling performance
  • Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness, Key leadership positions filled and retained; positive leadership-engagement indicators

This position reports to (supervisor): Dr. Ron Sakaguchi, Dean, School of Dentistry.

Required Qualifications

  • DDS, DMD or equivalent AND MBA or master's in health administration
  • Oregon Dental License or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • Substantial leadership experience (>5 yeas) in academic dentistry OR a complex healthcare/clinical system
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role in the academic environment at a dental school such as department chair, division head, assistant dean OR equivalent senior leadership roles in industry.
  • Strong operations management and organizational development experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EPIC/EPIC Wisdom and or axiUm-EPIC migration
