The Vollum Institute is a privately endowed research institute at Oregon Health & Science University dedicated to basic research that will lead to new treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases. Vollum scientists have broad-ranging interests that coalesce around molecular neurobiology and cellular physiology. Their work has transformed the field of neuroscience and, in particular, have provided important advances in the study of synaptic transmission, neuronal development, neurotransmitter transporters, ion channels and the neurobiology of disease.

• Collecting and analyzing data.
• Conducting data entry and validation.
• Conducting literature reviews.
• Learning to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity.
• Summarizing and presenting findings to supervisor and other study personnel.
• Animal handling and husbandry, fluorescence microscopy, library research, data collection and analysis.
• Cleaning/sterilizing lab instruments and surfaces.
• Stocking lab with supplies.
• May perform any routine duties as directed and under the supervision of other study personnel.

• Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in an Undergraduate program (minimum 6 credit hours).
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to be self-motivated, to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines.
• Ability to gather, compile, analyze and maintain data in a range of formats. 

• Student currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience or a relevant field.

• Experience in a research lab setting.

• Familiarity with basic research lab processes and techniques.

The student will be working in a basic science research lab with chemicals, working at a desk for extended periods, entering an animal facility, and regularly handling zebrafish adults and larvae for experiments.
