The ED provides a multidisciplinary service for all ages across the life span, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It includes a Level 1 Trauma Center, Observation Unit, Pediatric Emergency Services, and Adult Acute Care. The ED is responsible for assessing patient needs, planning and coordinating interventions and consultations. Procedures and treatments are provided in the ED including but not limited to; moderate and deep sedation, ultrasonography, intubation, cardioversion, D&C’s , sexual assault exams, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and imminent deliveries. Patient population and diagnosis includes acute stroke, acute STEMI, acute psychosis/psychological emergencies, and sepsis. Patients frequently present with alcohol or drug abuse history, or complex medical histories
The OHSU registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. Department Specific Working Conditions:
• Provide continuing care and monitoring of ED patients who present with psychiatric emergencies.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team on each patient’s plan of care.
• Create and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
• 2 years of current psychiatric nursing experience AND 8 hours of Psych/Behavioral Health education
• BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
• ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
• Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
• Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
• BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
• Board Certified in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing
