Department Overview

Become a member of a vibrant research team under the direct supervision of a stem cell biologist and cancer researcher in the OHSU Department of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology.

Function/Duties of Position

Participates in ongoing efforts to understand tumor behavior at the molecular and cellular level. Also participates in a collaborative research project between the two investigators that span a number of organ sites but focuses on a novel population of circulating cells. Works with murine cancer models, human clinical samples and collaborate with a host of specialized laboratories within the auspices of the Knight Cancer Institute and OHSU Basic Sciences. Responsibilities include:


  • Preparation of reagents, maintenance of cell culture, molecular cloning
  • Maintenance of mouse colonies, support of animal experiments
  • Performing laboratory research; processing of cell/tissues for imaging
  • Collecting data and simple data analysis and quantification
    Patient consent and patient specimen collection

Work is generally 40 hours per week during normal working hours, however, some evening and weekend work will be necessary on occasion. Additional safety training will be required to work with cell lines/infectious bacteria/viruses. Working with laboratory animals will be required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research OR Associate's degree (2 yr) and 3 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with some aspect of the proposed study (i.e. cancer biology, intercellular signaling, tumor microenvironment, etc.)
  • Experience with molecular biology and biochemistry using animal cell culture system
  • Skilled in molecular cloning, cell culture, western blotting and/or qPCR.
