The Vollum Institute is a privately endowed research institute at Oregon Health & Science University dedicated to basic research that will lead to new treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases. Vollum scientists have broad-ranging interests that coalesce around molecular neurobiology and cellular physiology. Their work has transformed the field of neuroscience and, in particular, have provided important advances in the study of synaptic transmission, neuronal development, neurotransmitter transporters, ion channels and the neurobiology of disease.

This position is full-time and the responsibilities are to conduct and support computational single-cell genomics research and infrastructure. Largely next-generation sequencing-based experiments geared toward understanding viral interactions with host brain cell types.

• Developing and maintaining Linux-based cluster and/or Cloud computing infrastructure for next-generation sequencing data.
• Assisting and mentoring the PI and other lab members with computational analyses.
• Advancing personal research projects toward insight and publication.
• Manuscript preparation for individual projects and assisting other lab members with manuscripts as necessary.
• Traveling to national and international meetings to present on findings.

• Ph.D. in relevant field of study (Computer Science or Bioinformatics)
• 3+ years of relevant post-doctoral work experience
• Experience with bioinformatics
• Next-generation sequencing data processing pipelines & analysis
• Knowledge of Linux/Java/Python/R/Samtools/GitHub
• Team-oriented research and mentorship

• Cluster and Cloud computation and infrastructure
• statistical and machine-learning approaches for big data
• Bioinformatics-related research and publications

Working conditions: Standard computational work, with partial work from home option; M-F 9-5 flexible with some evenings/weekends as analyses demand
