Inpatient Specimen Collection and Processing
- Collects SCHEDULED, ROUTINE, COLLECT NOW, AND TIMED DRAW specimens from inpatients using approved specimen collection methods. This includes following the policies and procedures as found in the Phlebotomy Procedure Manual on the MCN Policy site.
- Performs venipuncture using approved procedures on adult and pediatric patients on inpatient units.
- Assists coworkers as needed.

- Coordinates complex transfers of acutely ill patients to OHSU/DCH from outside hospitals. Collect accurate patient information, initiates EPIC intake, conducts initial cursory triage for possible transfer to partner hospitals, page appropriate OHSU physician(s), and connect referring provider to OHSU providers on a recorded telephone line and/or telemedicine link. ETC is responsible for scribing key information discussed in call, activating specialty teams, and disseminating information to clinical staff. Throughout the day, the Nurse Manager serves as the primary liaison between the RRT nurses, ICU leadership, hospital medicine teams, and administrative stakeholders.
