***New-hires are eligible for a hiring bonus***   PULMONARY FUNCTION LABS AND CLINICS: - Perform pulmonary function testing including: spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity, methacholine challenge, pulse oximetry and exercise studies and new tests as trained. - Completes reports and billing according to department policy. - Schedules and checks in/out patients appropriately for procedures. - Provide patient & family instruction on various therapeutic modalities including respiratory care treatments, non-invasive and invasive home ventilation - Demonstrates an understanding of current and all new care modalities and equipment as they pertain to this position. - Completes all competency testing, required in-services and activities. Takes personal responsibility for maintaining competency for equipment and modalities within the Diagnostic Respiratory Care Practitioner scope of practice. BRONCHOSCOPY PROCEDURES: - Assists physicians with bronchoscopy procedures per procedure. - Completes reports and billing per department policy. - Schedules patients and checks patients in/out appropriately for procedures. RESPIRATORY CARE: - Provides therapeutic interventions including but not limited to: airway management, therapeutic gases and ventilator management, newborn resuscitation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation. - Performs diagnostic procedures including but not limited to: sampling of arterial blood, bedside spirometry, spontaneous ventilatory parameters, point of care testing. - Therapeutic modalities and communication approached with reference to age specific needs of the patient, including - Doernbecher Children's Hospital Family Centered Care Program. - Assists other Respiratory Care Practitioners and health professionals to provide quality patient care in the spirit of teamwork. Trains new Respiratory Therapists, students and other healthcare team members.  - Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by a manager, supervisor or lead worker. DISCHARGE PLANNING: - Assess, develop and communicate safe discharge plans. - Facilitate reimbursement for home care by working with vendors and Care Management. - Educate patients and care givers in the use of medical equipment needed for hospital to home transition. - Establish and follow up on weaning plans for long term ventilated patients

- Uses independent judgment and established parameters to screen for potential organ, tissue, and eye donation in all DSA hospitals; obtain consent for donation; communicate with donor families, hospital staff and transplant teams; conduct donor management in ICU; place organs for transplant and assist with organ recovery; complete required donor follow up; screen import organ offers - Develops and delivers individualized curriculum to educate students regarding the federal rules requiring hospital staff to call a Donor Referral Line with every potential hospital death, the requirements for clinical support of the severely head-injured patient and the need for multi-professional coordination and assistance in the donation process.  Student groups include the following:  residents, medical students, critical care interns, nursing and physician assistant students and respiratory therapy. - Provides education of hospital staff and other professional staff regarding donation; cooperates with Hospital Services Coordinators in conducting After Action Reviews; participates in PNTB committees. - Accesses and manages privileged information in 82 partner donor hospitals amongst many shareholders related to organ donation as per the federal mandate of the National Transplant Act of 1984 in order to fulfill the mission of organ donation.  This includes but is not limited to physicians, nurses, medical examiners, district attorneys, transplant centers and OPOs nationwide and internationally as well as the federal government and multiple regulatory bodies. - Acts as a consultant and support for physicians and other healthcare professionals in our 82 partner facilities, in which we are contracted to provide professional services in matters related to organ donation, clinical management, and support of potential donors.  Such consulting, for example, can include catastrophic brain injury guidelines, declaration of brain death, and Federal Guideline requirements for the “Conditions of Participation” for Medicare facilities.
