The Koniaris and Zimmers laboratory uses human biospecimens, cell culture models, and mouse models to interrogate and understand the physiological response to injury or illness including liver injury, kidney injury, burn injury, and cancer. We seek novel targetable mechanisms to block adipose and muscle wasting in cachexia in order to promote function, quality of life, healing, and survival. The laboratory is highly collaborative, working closely with other labs and centers at OHSU and around the world. Funding is derived from OHSU, the Brenden Colson Center, the Knight Cancer Institute, NIH, and the Veterans Administration.   The Senior Research Associate will work directly under the PI s Koniaris and Zimmers and will execute various murine and human biospecimen studies and in vitro studies, providing continuity and longevity across projects. The position requires expertise in common cell and molecular biology techniques, including cell and tissue processing, cell culture, tissue dissociation, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, Western blotting, ELISAs, and gel electrophoresis. The candidate must possess exceptional organizational skills and a detail-oriented management style. An ability to work independently on human and murine biospecimen and in vitro studies, as well as collaboratively, and to help train and supervise entry-level staff, students, and interns is required. The SRA will contribute to manuscripts, grant applications, and presentations, and like all members of the laboratory, will contribute to shared laboratory chores, record keeping, ordering, compliance, etc. The SRA, like all full-time lab members, will contribute to training of rotation students and summer students and will present at laboratory meetings and other research meetings.

A Senior Research Associate position focused on cancer immunology is available in the lab of Dr. Megan Burger at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated Ph.D. scientist with experience in immunology and/or cancer biology and mouse models to join our team.   The Burger Lab is focused on uncovering factors regulating T cell responses against cancer to inform the design of next generation cancer immunotherapies. We seek a Senior Research Associate to lead projects focused on 1) antigen-driven dynamics of the anti-tumor T cell response or 2) tumor microenvironment regulation of T cell responses to lung cancer. Mechanistic findings will be translated to the design and preclinical testing of cancer immunotherapies. Projects will utilize genetically engineered mouse models of lung cancer paired with single-cell analysis platforms, including high dimensionality flow cytometry, single-cell RNA-sequencing, and spatial profiling to deeply investigate tumor-immune crosstalk. The Center for Biomedical Data Science (CBDS) at the Knight Cancer Institute (KCI) at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) is searching for multiple tenured or tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and/or Professor) in the area of Biomedical Data Science.  Faculty will be members of CBDS with primary tenure home in the Division of Oncological Sciences (DOS) at KCI. A secondary appointment in a different unit at OHSU is possible depending on the candidate's discipline and research focus.   The newly founded CBDS, as a nexus for research in data science at OHSU, is dedicated to advancing precision health in general, and precision early cancer detection and therapies in particular, by analyzing large, complex, multi-modal multi-scale data through the development and implementation of novel computational analytical toolsand methods. The data science goals include identifying biomarkers associated with response and resistance to therapy; modeling etiologic causes of cancer; modeling the development and progression of cancer; organizing and processing large data resources to create harmonized datasets; and mining datasets for novel subtypes of diseases. The field analyzes all kinds of cancer data, including omics, anatomical imaging to molecular imaging to nanoscale imaging, cellular and pathway interactions, electronic medical records, and published literature. A key area of focus is integrating datasets, such as combining public and private datasets or merging data across modalities, and doing novel analyses on integrated datasets.   To serve these goals, CBDS seeks interdisciplinary scholars whose work spans diverse areas, including but not limited to: machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, AI-enabled health, computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, dynamic modeling, responsible and interpretable AI, multi-scale multi-modal data integration, and data analytics and visualization.   Responsibilities Faculty members at CBDS are expected to develop independent research programs that attract external funding; supervise students, postdocs, and staff in their area of research; teach courses at the graduate level; and participate in service to CBDS, KCI, university, and discipline. The purposes of these roles are to: - Provide clinical management of patients in Hematology & Medical Oncology; - Assure a coordinated, effective, high quality, and efficient care process; - Use an interdisciplinary team approach to the care of patients; - Work collaboratively with clinic management on process improvement projects; - Provide education to colleagues, staff and students, as needed. Positions are available in the following areas. You will be asked within the application process to indicate which position(s) you are applying for or are most interested in.   CHH2 Infusion Unit: Summary: This APP will provide oversight of the infusion unit, responding to acute infusion reactions and urgent medical issues. Additionally, they will see up to four same day/scheduled patients in our infusion clinic. Schedule: 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, weekdays, weekend, and holidays included.   Outpatient Genitourinary (GU) APP: The GU APP manages patient care for genitourinary cancers which include the following: Prostate, renal cell carcinoma, bladder, testicular, and penile cancers. Treatments for these various cancer types have a broad range including hormonal therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, oral targeted therapies, and radio pharmaceuticals. The APP is also responsible for managing side effects from treatments and seeing patients on clinical trials. This APP will also attend research meetings to discuss trials and clinical trial patient related issues. Additionally, this APP may intermittently provide oversight of the infusion unit, responding to acute infusion reactions and urgent medical issues.   Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week. Schedule to be determined upon hiring.   Outpatient APP with focus in classical hematology:  The Classical Hematology APP will provide patient care for a variety of disease categories including: cytopenias (anemia, thrombocytopenia), polycythemia, thrombocytosis, leukocytosis, iron deficiency and overload, venous thromboembolic disease (VTE), bleeding disorders, and hemoglobinopathies (sickle cell, thalassemia). The APP will utilize (and manage side effects of) therapies including oral and intravenous iron, phlebotomy, anticoagulants, immune suppressants, cytoreductive agents (hydroxyurea), and oral and intravenous targeted therapies (monoclonal antibodies). The APP will assist patients in-person, virtually, or via e-consult. A focus of this Classical Hematology APP position will be managing a large volume of patients with iron deficiency, including triage of potential bleeding sources, selection and administration of appropriate iron therapy, and follow up. The APP will enjoy a distinct voice in the general management and culture of the Classical Hematology group.   Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week. Final schedule to be determined upon hiring.   Outpatient APP with focus in sarcoma:  The Sarcoma APP manages patient care for sarcomas which include a wide variety of rare cancers such as osteosarcoma, liposarcoma, synovial sarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, desmoid tumors and many more. Treatments for these tumors have a broad range including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and oral targeted therapies, and generally require multidisciplinary care with surgery and radiation. The APP is responsible for managing side effects from treatments and seeing patients on clinical trials. This APP will also attend research meetings to discuss trials and clinical trial patient related issues. Additionally, this APP may intermittently provide oversight of the infusion unit, responding to acute infusion reactions and urgent medical issues.   Schedule: Schedule to be determined upon hiring.   Outpatient APP with focus in bone marrow transplant: The BMT APP independently performs procedures, such as: Bone marrow biopsy and aspirations, skin biopsies, lumbar punctures, ommaya taps and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy. Provides direct care of patients prior to and after hematopoietic cell transplants and cellular therapy procedures. Manages infectious, hematopoietic, renal and dermatologic complications of treatment and disease with a multidisciplinary team. Participates in enrolling and managing patients on clinical trials.   The OHSU Blood & Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program is a large program experiencing significant growth and is pursuing the recruitment of APPs with a record of providing high quality clinical care. - The clinical director of the division of pediatric orthopedics, and Doernbecher Surgeon-in-Chief will work with you to develop your clinical and operative schedule.  Your duties will include inpatient, outpatient and surgical service activities for general orthopedic surgical services at Doernbecher Childrens Hospital, with a specialty focus in your area of interest as agreed with the Department Chair and Doernbecher Surgeon-in-Chief. Experience and interest in all aspect of pediatric orthopedic surgery, with or without an interest in spine is accepted and appreciated. Call: This position will be expected to take call as assigned with other faculty on nights, weekends, and holidays. - Education: As OHSU is a teaching facility, instruction of medical students and residents in the clinical setting as well as through assigned lectures is required. Teaching assignments will be given from the Director of Education for the Department of Orthopedics.
