Screen patients for and obtain/record patient’s chief complaint, take accurate history of illnesses/surgeries (Ophthalmic and General), past ocular history, family history, drug allergies, and medications.  Assist physician with completing/transferring patient information to the patient problem list as required per JCAHO.  Perform ophthalmic testing as appropriate per patient.  This includes but is not limited to checking/documenting distance and near vision in adults and children with and without correction, clearly determining from patient history if the patient is needing new glasses on any given visit.  Pupillary assessment to rule out afferent defect and to check pupil size (rule out asymmetry), corneal curvature, corneal pachymetry, corneal topography, color vision testing, must be proficient in performing lensometry including reading lenses with multifocal and progressive adds, power of sphere, axis of cylinder and cylinder power, and orientation and power of prism and measurement of interpupillary distance.  Perform applanation tonometry, and utilize Tonopen (noncontact tonometry) to check intraocular pressure.  Perform confrontation visual fields.  Must be proficient in auto refraction, fogging with astigmatic dials, cross cylinder refinement and measurement of accommodation.   Must be able to perform cover/uncover test, alternate cover test and quantify strabismus.  Must be able to document ocular motility, presence of strabismus or nystagmus.  Must be able to perform Worth 4-dot test and Stereopsis test.  Must be able to test near point of convergence, ductions, versions and vergences.  Must be able to perform Potential Acuity Meter testing, Glare Testing.  Instill dilating and other ophthalmic drops per physician’s instructions.   Assist doctors during examination as needed including scribing using Epic where indicated.  Prepare for, set up and assist in minor surgical, and laser procedures, including all types of lasers.  Must be familiar with preoperative and pre-laser patient education.  Apply eye dressings, protective shields.  Provide patient instruction, education and assistance as required.  Always be willing to assist patients in clinic areas.  Per standard guidelines, clean exam lanes and minor surgical instruments. Prepare instruments to be sent for sterilization.  Responsible for room maintenance including periodic cleaning of exam lanes.  Keep rooms stocked with appropriate instruments, as well as necessary ophthalmic drops, per physician’s direction.   Other duties:  Take ‘tech calls as needed to assist front desk scheduling team, refill pharmacy requests as per physician guidelines; fax/send glasses prescriptions as indicated.   Set up ophthalmic examination rooms, stock supplies as necessary, perform minor repairs and triage to Clinical Engineering or outside vendors as necessary.  Maintain instruments and be able to clean and properly sterilize items.   Periodic cleaning of trial lenses and examining lenses, ordering of linens and medications from pharmacy.     Provide administrative assistance and support as required including surgery scheduling (cases in OR as well as in the Minor surgery room and lasers), enlisting translators when necessary, procuring pre-surgery  history and physicals from primary care physician’s offices, verifying patient insurance information, obtaining insurance authorizations/referrals where indicated, fax and call for pharmacy requests, confirming OR cases the week before, and share duty of taking tech calls with other technicians.  Being aware of patient’s financial/insurance status (pay scale if patient is self insured, and insurance coverage where valid) in the OHSU demographic database.  Assisting physician in filling out forms such as Commission for the Blind forms and forms regarding the visual impairment of patients, and other such forms.  Learn computer applications (scheduling, order entry, etc.) used in the clinic and achieve understanding of insurance authorization process.  Other duties as requested by supervisor.  Exhibit initiative and teamwork in performing all daily tasks.   Perform calibration of automated and non-automated perimeters.  Maintain a working knowledge of computerized visual field programs, and be able to perform Amsler Grid testing.  Maintain a working knowledge of disease processes that may affect the visual pathway and resultant changes in the visual field.  Perform SITA and Standard Humphrey (automated) (central and peripheral).   Certification:  Participate in continuing education courses and activities, maintain current JCAHPO certification.  Have knowledge of and be able to practice JCAHO clinical guidelines.  Demonstrate competence in all required skills during yearly skills evaluation.   Customer Service:  Provides high quality customer service to patients, OHSU faculty and referring providers, to include PCP’s and their office staff, insurance providers in requesting referrals, and co-workers and staff as well as setting an example in training new employees.  Maintains a high standard of patient interactions skills and is exemplary in addressing patient complaints when necessary.

All private care activities shall be conducted through the institute faculty private practice plan. This position requires undivided effort at the specific FTE. The general pattern of working hours will be set by the Director of the Dotter Institute, but deviations from general patterns may be necessary to meet position responsibilities. On average there will be 3 procedural days, 1 outpatient clinic day, and 1 academic day. Duration of this appointment and indicated salary may be changed or eliminate if a gift, grant, or contract fund supporting this position becomes unavailable. This is a fulltime appointment at 1.0 FTE. The faculty member will join and remain a member of the departmental practice plan and the faculty practice corporation for the duration of the faculty member’ OHSU appointment so long as the plan and the corporation are so approved and designated by the president. The faculty member will provide and utilize all patient care services at the University Hospital and clinics and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital unless specifically authorized otherwise in writing by the president or the president’s designee. The Division of Metabolic Health & Disease at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is inviting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position to strengthen the Division’s research program in the areas of metabolism, physiology and endocrinology. Successful candidates would join a premier translational research facility focused on nonhuman primate models of human disease. ONPRC research is carried out in the laboratories of 46 principal investigators in the areas of metabolism, neuroscience, reproduction, genetics, and infectious disease using a colony of more than 4,700 nonhuman primates. Competitive applicants will have an established research program in the general area of metabolic disease (obesity, type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cardiometabolic disease), endocrinology and metabolism, pancreatic and/or islet biology or central regulation of body weight or glucose homeostasis.   We seek an outstanding scientist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in a relevant discipline with demonstrated ability to obtain independent research funding and a track record of impactful publications. The successful candidate will have or develop an independent research program in metabolic research, as well as demonstrate the desire to collaborate with investigators in the highly diverse research environment of ONPRC. While current or previous nonhuman primate research experience is beneficial, all candidates with clinical or rodent research backgrounds will receive equal consideration, with the understanding that they would transition to at a research program that includes at least 50% of nonhuman primate-based research within a reasonable period.

A CRNA is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The CRNA shall provide pediatric services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The CRNA is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.   Clinical Service: - Provides pediatric anesthesia care within the care team model commensurate with education, licensure, certification, and within limits of experience and expertise. - In collaboration with and under the direct supervision of a medically directing anesthesiologist: - Perform pre-anesthetic assessment on all patients. - Interpretation and treatment of all pertinent lab and assessment data. - Obtain additional lab data, medical testing and additional consultation as appropriate. - Develop and implement an anesthetic plan. - Proper selection and placement of invasive and non-invasive modalities for monitoring and evaluating patients throughout the perioperative period. - Proper selection and administration of anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, fluids and blood products necessary to manage an anesthetic. - Verify that all standard and special anesthesia equipment is operational prior to the anesthetic. - Induction, maintenance and emergence from anesthesia. - Appropriate transfer of care to the postoperative receiving unit. - Communicate clinically significant changes in patient condition on surgical intervention to the medically directing anesthesiologist and jointly develop modifications to the anesthesia plan, as indicated. - In conjunction with other care team members, is responsible for: - Using all equipment appropriately and in a safe manner. - Lift, move, and position patients utilizing correct body mechanics - Promotes best practice in all areas of patient care. - Facilitate operating room capacity, case flow and minimize case delays. - Promote infection control and participate in quality and patient safety initiatives. Procedures and treatments provided in the ED include but are not limited to: placing venous access, drawing bloodwork, medication, fluid and blood administration, radiography, extremity splinting and reduction, laceration repair, moderate and deep sedation, ultrasonography, intubation, cardioversion, D&C’s, sexual assault exams, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and imminent deliveries.  Patient population and diagnoses vary from minor to critical care and include: chest and abdominal pain, extremity injuries and trauma, migraine, overdose, seizure, dehydration, heart failure, respiratory distress, acute stroke, acute STEMI, acute psychosis/psychological emergencies, infection, and sepsis. Patients may frequently present with alcohol or drug abuse history, and complex medical histories. The ED Team works determine if the patient requires admission or discharge with resources and referrals. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:5 based on the patients dynamic stability and acuity.   The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations.
