The Healthy Oregon Project (HOP) funded by CEDAR and a Cancer Moonshot grant is a research study that is brings no cost genetic screening to the state of Oregon using a mobile app with the mission to save lives and to create a repository for early detection researchers. HOP is looking for an individual that is interested in population health research and is inspired by cancer research to end cancer early.
This position requires a highly motivated and flexible individual that is able to assist in multiple project needs for the HOP. This position will assist the project manager in all HOP research and includes duties such as assisting as the point of contact for all HOP participants to answer any questions and assist with technical troubleshooting with the HOP app, liaison to the clinical laboratory that processes HOP samples to mitigate any sample issues as they occur, and to send out kits to interested participants. Dr. Agarwal and her team for over past 15 years focusing on identifying novel signaling pathways that are requisite for leukemia initiation, clonal evolution, and drug resistance. This position will be a hybrid between wet lab and computational disciplines, with a dedicated mentorship in both areas. The new team member will help lead the project focused on understanding the mechanisms of leukemia initiation and drug resistance in a context dependent manner. The project will use variety of advanced molecular biology techniques, CRISPR methods along with single cell transcriptomic, epigenetic, and genomic profiling in premalignant and malignant models using murine and human cells in vitro and in vivo. The candidate should also be able to perform complex data analysis, along with downstream analyses using computational approaches. Applicants will need to possess strong technical and organizational skills as well as the ability to manage an independent project.
Laboratory and/or computational experience in the field of molecular/cellular biology, cancer biology or a related field is preferred. Experience with sequencing library preparation, epigenetics, flow cytometry, or murine models of disease would be especially beneficial. As the Senior Clinical Research Manager for CEDAR you will work closely with the Knight Clinical Research Management (CRM) group, the CEDAR CMO, and CEDAR leadership to support the conduct of translational clinical research by improving the lives of people and families with cancer. In this role you will support the application of innovative strategies for cancer prevention, screening diagnosis and treatment, and ensure proactive, high quality and efficient study management in compliance with federal regulations and local policies and procedures. Your responsibilities include overseeing the CEDAR clinical research team in the overall conduct of clinical trials using Good Clinical Practice and for tracking and complying with clinical trial performance benchmarks, patient safety, staff development and training, and financial goals.
You are responsible for oversight of all activities within the CEDAR Clinical Trials Program and CEDAR Biorepository. The inpatient APP is responsible for daily rounds in conjunction with the faculty physician, writing of daily notes and orders, coordinating care with the multidisciplinary team, coordinating the inpatient workflow of admissions and discharges, performing appropriate procedures (ie., bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, Ommaya taps, and administration of chemotherapy), and additional duties as assigned.
The inpatient APP team works collaboratively in a clinical and teaching capacity with opportunities to attend and participate in relevant educational conferences and Division-specific research protocols.
Scope and range within unit population: Adolescent through geriatric. Cellular therapy and bone marrow transplant patients, as well as patients undergoing treatment of hematologic and oncologic malignancies.
You will be creative and driven; able to analyze and apply computational tools to emerging genomic technologies to address basic and translational questions in our research area, including cancer metabolism, cancer therapeutics and biomarker discovery. Important findings will be further explored experimentally, both in our lab and through collaboration, with the ultimate goal of translating promising findings into clinical trials. You should be highly-motivated with a basic background in molecular/cellular biology and have a strong desire to learn and integrate biological and computational modeling techniques. Computer programming skills (Python, R) will be highly advantageous.

This position will be assigned to the Anatomic Pathology Division, with principal responsibilities in Neuropathology. Neuropathology clinical responsibilities include diagnostic sign out, including frozen section coverage, and sharing evening and weekend call on an equal basis. Qualification for coverage of another clinical subspecialty service would be welcomed, including surgical pathology and autopsy. Service and other assignments will be reviewed and modified by the Department Chair, as needed.

The Lymphoma Program of the Knight Cancer Institute is seeking a Clinical Research Manager. This program is driven by the work of 5 medical oncologists whose work seeks to improve the lives of patients with any type of lymphoma. This program is well-established and busy with trials ranging from First-in-human treatments to translational studies to gain a better understanding of cancer processes.
Position Summary:
The Clinical Research Manager is responsible for direct oversight of all clinical research activities within their designated OHSU Knight Cancer Institute clinical research disease program. The responsibilities for this role include personnel management for 8-20 employees in the clinical research organization, management of finances associated with clinical research accounts and overall organization budget, and disease group program development in collaboration with disease site leaders and investigators. In support of these activities, the Clinical Research Manager is involved in continual process improvement to further the efficiency and effectiveness of the clinical research organization.
The Clinical Research Manager is responsible for creating a caring and compassionate patient focused experience and serves as a liaison between investigators and industry partners as well as other stakeholders within the institution.
Key responsibilities:
Personnel Management
- Identify, hire and on-board high quality candidates who are committed to furthering the mission of the Knight Cancer Institute clinical research organization.

- Gathers and/or verifies patient information including demographics, insurance coverage, and financial status.
- Confirms patient eligibility for health care coverage and clarifies any managed care arrangements.
- Completes and routes direct referrals to other clinical services.
- Works the Follow-Up and Charge Review work queues in EPIC.
- Initiates authorizations for subsequent care.
- As assigned: Care Coordination for multi-D clinic; owns and maintains all aspects Stones clinic.
B- Surgery Scheduling

- Obtains insurance authorizations and schedules in EPIC.
- Facilitates care arrangements by scheduling pre-op appointments, PAT clinic, ancillary and clinical services as needed.
- Maintains current information regarding surgery schedules for service site providers. Serves as liaison and information resource for physicians, nursing support staff, coworkers, IP Admitting Department, Surgery Office, and Periop Services.
- Collects from physician all information necessary to schedule a surgery (including ICD10 codes, equipment needs, etc.).
- Insures all equipment, vendors, and all other special surgical equipment requested is in place for surgeries.
- Applies problem solving and negotiating skills in resolving provider and patient concerns and other surgery related problems.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Schedules patient appointments.
- Obtains prior medical records and studies if appropriate.
- Requests and then ensures that all diagnostic studies are available for viewing prior to the patient’s appointment (if appropriate).
- Triages and documents accurately telephone calls from patients including requests for medication refills, complaints, general information inquiries, and urgent health care concerns into EPIC. Delivers such information or requests promptly to the appropriate providers or their designees through EPIC in-basket messages and telephone encounters
- Arranges ancillary appointments and interpreters when necessary, and accommodates other special needs whenever possible.

RN Care Managers assess each patient on admission for available family support, insurance resources, and potential discharge planning needs. They use established criteria to determine appropriateness of admission and continuing stay and work with insurance companies to assure on going authorization for continued stay and post hospital needs. Daily care coordination rounds occur on each nursing unit Monday through Friday at which Case Managers meet various disciplines to discuss the plan for the day and the plan for the patients stay. They will also frequently lead and/or be involved in multidisciplinary care conferences with family involving complicated care situations.

Evening Shift Case Manager:
- Provide nurse case management support to patients, families and staff in the evening shift 7 days per week
- Assure hand over of information to day shift CM.
- Receives referrals from day shift CM’s
- Trouble shoots any SNF placement issues that occur after hours
- Root Cause Analysis for any failed SNF discharge
- Admit/ED Case Manager functions as needed
