All private care activities shall be conducted through the institute faculty private practice plan. This position requires undivided effort at the specific FTE. The Knight Cardiovascular Institute Clinical Senior Research Assistant (Research Coordinator) is responsible for various duties related to clinical trials. The research coordinator will Identify potential subjects through chart review, discussion with investigator or other mechanisms; assists PI in the identification and eligibility of new protocol subjects; schedules, orders, communicates assessments and appointments.  They are responsible for trial implementation for all trials that fall under their specific discipline.  The Research Coordinator is also the primary liaison for patients receiving experimental research procedures on a clinical trial and is responsible for the triage of patient needs and identification, reporting of, and follow-up of adverse events.  They have a strong understanding of the connection and differences between clinical care and protocol visits conducted for research subjects.    The research coordinator will have a very strong understanding of research regulations, reporting timelines, and quality data abstraction for research purposes.  This position will primarily support our Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy research team within the division of Cardiology, they may be reassigned secondary duties to support other sections within the Cardiovascular Medicine Clinical Trials Unit and Knight Cardiovascular Institute. The research coordinator will Identify potential subjects through chart review, discussion with investigator or other mechanisms; assists PI in the identification and eligibility of new protocol subjects; schedules, orders, communicates assessments and appointments.  They are responsible for trial implementation for all trials that fall under their specific discipline.  The Research Coordinator is also the primary liaison for patients receiving experimental research procedures on a clinical trial and is responsible for the triage of patient needs and identification, reporting of, and follow-up of adverse events.  They have a strong understanding of the connection and differences between clinical care and protocol visits conducted for research subjects.    The research coordinator will have a very strong understanding of research regulations, reporting timelines, and quality data abstraction for research purposes.  This position will primarily support our Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy research team within the division of Cardiology, they may be reassigned secondary duties to support other sections within the Cardiovascular Medicine Clinical Trials Unit and Knight Cardiovascular Institute. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.   This position reports to (supervisor): Craig McDougall, MD, Primary Care Section Head                                                      Katie Bensching, MD, Division Chief   The duties of this position include:   - Serve as a Primary care clinician in the Faculty Practice  (to include continuity care, as well as interim or same day care)  - Opportunities to care for inpatient general Medicine patients - Participate in clinical based teaching of OHSU students and internal medicine residents, such as resident continuity clinic precepting.     The Division of General Internal Medicine & Geriatrics is actively building an integrated team practice model for delivering high quality medical care and service to the patients we serve, including transitional care of hospitalized patients. The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to work with a team of health care providers and collaborate to achieve clinical care goals.  Our practice also includes innovative models for delivering structured care to populations of patients with chronic conditions. Candidates with an interest in and experience with chronic care models of health care, coordination of care of complex patients in various settings, and continuous practice improvement will receive priority consideration. Our practice is recognized by the State of Oregon as a Tier 4 Patient Centered Primary Care Home and a Comprehensive Primary Care Plus clinic site.    This position will include continuity ambulatory practice and potentially interim care for the practice. Clinical care duties will be the equivalent of 7 half days per week.  Evening clinic hours will be expected at a 1-2 days a week.  Communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other clinicians in our practice is essential. Inpatient work will be assigned as available at OHSU or its partner institutions.   Faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine & Geriatrics participate actively in teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and each other. Opportunities for teaching abound and participation is encouraged and valued. The faculty member will be expected to participate in continuing education, professional and faculty development and scholarship, as directed by his or her department. Compensation for this position will include a base academic salary, paid through the academic department, plus a clinical salary from an incentive system based on the success and productivity for their clinical work at OHSU campus, as well as personal initiative.

- Rounds regularly, 3 times per 8 hour shift, to inpatient ICU floors. Collaborates with clinical staff to assess patient needs before each task (lift or reposition), including type of lift to be performed, condition of patient, and state of patient’s physical disability. Performs patient transfers or repositioning using the appropriate lifting and transfer equipment. Identifies availability of necessary equipment and supplies for use in transfer or reposition. - Responds to patient falls and urgent situations in an expedited manner (in less than 10 minutes). Collaborates, if possible, with clinical staff on scheduling prior to patient appointment. Responds to requests via Vocera, pagers or through the Transportation Dispatch. - Participates in MTP’s on the highest priority basis. Responds promptly to the Transportation Dispatchers directives. Maintains continual communication with dispatcher using Vocera and face-to-face communication with MTP clinical personnel. To ensure timeliness of this service, the following must be observed: use of elevators is not permissible and the first response must occur within 30 seconds of pager notification. - Transports patients using wheelchair, stretcher, hospital bed, and morgue cart to and from various locations include, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostics, pre-op, life flight pad and morgue. Transfer patients to and from stretcher, hospital bed, exam table and wheelchair using transportation-assist devices such as Hovermatts, Slipps, slider boards and backboards. - Transports medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies to and from various locations within the OHSU environment.
