Language Interpretation Services - Provides interpretation between patients, employees, and OHSU staff via telephone, videoconferencing, and on-site for patients with limited English proficiency while maintaining a friendly disposition. Understands and analyzes the spoken message, and re-expresses that message faithfully, accurately, and objectively in the target language, considering the cultural and social context. Serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to both patients and providers in contributing to successful outcomes. Language Translation Services - Completes translations projects by rendering written text from one language into another language while maintaining the meaning, structure, style, and intended impact of the original. Provides accurate translation of medical documents, letters, educational materials, and other translation projects as assigned by the department. Consulting and Education Services - Works with medical staff to promote alternative communication approaches for more effective medical treatment of non-English speaking patients. Consults and educates department management on best practices of working and communicating with LEP employees. Serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to patients, staff, management and providers in contributing to successful outcomes. Educates staff and faculty on topics of cultural awareness, LEP populations, and working with interpreters. Patient Services - Respectfully aids patients in finding internal and external resources when deemed appropriate. Works collaboratively with other auxiliary departments to ensure Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients can access and actively participate in their health care. Works with medical staff to promote alternative communication approaches for more effective medical treatment of LEP patients. The provider will be involved in eight half days with direct patient care, and the supervision of students and other university learners at the Cascades East Family Medicine Center. A half of a work day is provided for administration and a half of a work day is provided for scholarly activities. This individual will be responsible for specific sections of ongoing and newly funded projects using non-human primates in the study of the immune system, immunodeficiencies, infectious diseases, and specific pathogen free non-human primate projects for the Smedley Lab, located on the West Campus of OHSU. They may have responsibility for overseeing labs or research units, collecting and processing animal tissues, and preparation of written reports and, as applicable, regulatory documentation. They may assist with necropsies and sample collection and processing of terminal tissue samples. They may provide technical and administrative support for principle investigative staff of the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute, ONPRC, and the Experimental Pathology Unit to ensure research timepoints are coordinated and performed efficiently. Coordinate with the veterinary, animal care, and surgical staff to facilitate project expectations, schedules, and progress, and in some cases to facilitate social environmental enrichment of non-human primates. The Clinical Veterinary Technician 1 assists in providing clinical care, nursing support and husbandry for a variety of USDA covered laboratory research animals including those typically housed in a BSL2+. Work may involve an ABSL3 facility. This is the first level of a three-level series.  It is distinguished from the higher levels with increased supervision, a focus on entry level procedural activities and reduced responsibility for performing complex animal care protocols and veterinary diagnostic and treatment procedures.  At this level there is an emphasis on animal health, hospitalized patient care, and training, with increased supervision of techniques and decision-making processes. CVT 1s typically will need supervision or guidance from senior staff or DVMs greater than 50% of their workday. CVTs are distinguished from the Veterinary Research/Health Technician series by the focus on triage, case management, and provision of surgical repairs for wounds. Work inside an ABSL3 facility is a requirement of this position. Rounds/Triage/Observation/Records - Evaluate new/ongoing clinical cases for abnormal behavior, illness, injury.
