- Leading and organizing MRI data collection efforts from infants and young children including attending scans on evenings and weekends and responsibility for data quality control. - Engaging with HBCD consortium (representing the OHSU site by serving on workgroups, attending relevant trainings, and giving presentations). - Statistical analysis of MRI and other data types in preparation for dissemination. - Training graduate students, undergraduate students, and research assistants. - Assisting with research protocols and compliance. - Contributing to dissemination of data including preparing manuscripts for publication and presentation of data at national and international meetings.

The mission of the Neuroanesthesiology Fellowship Program is to develop expert clinicians and leaders by providing advanced training in the perioperative management of patients with complex neurologic pathologies in a learning atmosphere that nurtures intellectual curiosity and innovation.    The program is designed to offer 12 months of post-residency clinical subspecialty anesthesia training for adults with intracranial masses, neurovascular pathologies, and spine pathologies in diverse settings including the operating room, MRI hybrid suite, and interventional radiology suite. The fellow will have the opportunity to team up with a cohort of people across multiple disciplines, including neurosurgeons, neurologists, and intraoperative monitoring technicians to provide advanced subspecialty care in a variety of craniotomy approaches including awake craniotomies. Postdoctoral positions are available for a newly NIAAA-funded study in the Division of Neuroscience at the Oregon National Primate Research Center at the Oregon Health & Sciences University. This project is a collaboration between the laboratories of Drs. Chris Kroenke, Elinor Sullivan, and Verginia Cuzon Carlson. Together, our group is studying the effects of prenatal ethanol exposure in a non-human primate model of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. The experiments proposed include magnetic resonance imaging, ex vivo slice electrophysiology, and primate behavior including the assessment of normative behavior, cognition and emotional regulation.  Responsibilities will include assisting at multiple phases of the study, including data collection, data analysis, and results dissemination by publications and presentations at national meetings.  Candidates with expertise or prior experience in one of the following areas (and a strong desire to develop additional skills in at least one additional area) are especially encouraged to apply: behavioral models of learning and motivation, models of alcohol use disorder, developmental neuroscience, ex vivo slice electrophysiology, neuroimaging data and/or computational neuroscience.

The successful candidate for this position will be expected to independently contribute to and actively participate in research projects related to studies in nonhuman primates (NHP) to advance HIV antibody therapeutics and cure research. Training will be required and provided to prepare for participating in NHP lab animal experiments including handling of NHP for passive antibody and vaccine studies. Research will include working with infectious agents, including Simian/Human Immunodeficiency Virus (SHIV) in a BSL-2+ containment laboratory. A working knowledge of the use of PET/CT technology and analysis for medical research purposes is desirable, but specific training for supporting these studies will be provided as part of the candidate’s training. Candidates for this position will be evaluated for laboratory skills and experience that include general immunology-related assays, protein biochemistry, mammalian cell culture, Flow Cytometry, FACS sorting, and molecular biology and cloning techniques. This position will also require assistance with writing manuscripts for publications, project proposals for funding, internal and external research reporting, Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and IACUC regulatory documentation related to laboratory management. Primary research responsibilities will include planning and performing experiments within the guidelines assigned by the principal investigators, data collection and analysis, and developing new technologies in the laboratory.

A Research Assistant 2 will provide support in a non-human primate systems neuroscience laboratory with a focus on computational modeling of complex learning and decision making and how it relates to the activity of motivational neural circuits. The research technician will work closely with the Principal Investigator. The technician will be expected to work autonomously and oversee daily behavioral testing and training of animals, husbandry as necessary, assist with stereotaxic surgeries and neurophysiological recording procedures, train research technicians, preparation of reagents, and the preparation of written reports and when necessary regulatory documentation.

This position is for a Neuro-Oncologist clinical researcher for a joint program between the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and the Knight Cancer Institute.    Responsibilities include management, treatment, and follow-up care of patients with brain tumors; participation in clinical trials; teaching medical students, residents and fellows; inpatient attending rotations on the neuro-oncology service and shared night/weekend call. This position includes the opportunity to develop a scholarly program in neuro-oncology research.    The outpatient program will be centered in an interdisciplinary medical and surgical neuro-oncology clinic housed in the Department of Neurological Surgery with dedicated nursing and APP support and administrative program leadership. The inpatient practice will be housed in the Division of Medical Neuro-oncology in the Knight Cancer Institute. The program will also access the clinical trial and biobanking infrastructure of the Knight Cancer Institute. The program is further distinguished by advanced diagnostic and intra-operative imaging and surgical technology. Primary academic appointment will be in the core training specialty with joint appointments in the other two disciplines.   Academic duties includes teaching at all levels in the care of patients with brain and CNS tumors, and engaging in scholarly activities relating to the Neuro-oncology subspecialty.

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.   Clinical: This position serves as a Structural Cardiologist in the Interventional section. Duties include outpatient clinic, inpatient cardiology and cardiology consult service rotations. Additional duties will include in imaging and echocardiography. Other areas of clinical duties may be available depending on need and interest of applicant.   Education: OHSU is a teaching institution and as a faculty member, you are expected to provide mentorship and direction to students, residents, fellows and staff. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). The APP is a member of the OHSU & Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC) Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The APP shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The APP is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU & Hillsboro Medical Center policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice. Duties of the position include:   Clinical Activities:   - Evaluates and manages patients for wound care and ensures delivered care meets current standards of practice. - Demonstrates competency in the position of wound care including assessment and debridement. - Participates in the Quality Improvement Program to optimize quality service and maintain a high level of patient satisfaction. - Serves as a patient advocate, initiating action to provide continuity of care outside of the facility setting. This position is part of the management team, requiring knowledge of international, federal, state and local rules, regulations, and guidelines. A doctorate degree or doctorate of veterinary medicine degree and the ability to understand a wide variety of research protocols in sufficient detail to provide oversight/training of staff is required. This position will conduct surgeries/procedures and write detailed descriptions/records in support of the project to the principal investigator. The incumbent has a diverse range of responsibilities, which includes the following: Support the Head of the IDR with developing and coordinating nonhuman primate (NHP) infectious disease study plans; formulating budgets for NHP studies; and preparing and maintaining Institutional Animal Care and Use and Institutional Biosafety protocols for NHP studies.  Additionally, the staff scientist will prepare Animal Resources and Research Support (ARRS) Animal Planning and Animal Assignment forms; coordinate/support NHP research protocols hosted by the Infectious Disease Resource (IDR); supervise technical staff; provide training for IDR technical staff; and provide technical expertise for surgical procedures and necropsies as appropriate for the individuals’ training.

The Assistant Staff Scientist will work on ongoing studies in non-hormonal contraception development and female fertility. Qualified candidates will hold a PhD in biology, physiology or equivalent, have a minimum of 3 years relevant post-doctoral work experience and possess a comprehensive understanding of molecular biology, immunology or microbiology. A strong background in reproduction or female reproductive tract, next generational sequencing methods is highly desirable. Competency in cell culture, flow cytometry or molecular biology techniques is essential. Applicants will be expected to develop skills related to RNA sequencing, high throughput screening and primate reproductive tract studies, working directly with NHPs for sedation and clinical monitoring, behavioral observations, biological and post-mortem sample collection. Applicants should be able to work in a team dynamic, carry out research unsupervised, keep up-to-date on relevant literature in the field, provide meaningful data reports for presentation at scientific meetings, prepare manuscripts, and assist with grant writing and laboratory management.

Specific duties:  The candidate will be expected to establish a high quality research program, establish collaborations as part of a collegial group of basic and clinical researchers, supervise a laboratory team, successfully apply for external grant support, publish manuscripts in high quality journals, and participate in occasional seminars, teaching and mentoring of interns.   Specific areas of research to be given highest priority would include:  1) Development of novel IRD disease models in rodents and primates or using human IPSCs; 2) Development of novel therapeutic agents for macular degeneration and IRDs including but not limited to: small molecule agents, gene augmentation, anti-sense oligonucleotides, gene editing and cell-based therapies.   The candidate would join a group of highly successful and collaborative researchers and clinician-scientists in the field of retinal disease.  The Casey Eye Institute has extraordinary facilities and resources for research in this area, including the Ophthalmic Genetics Division, a Clinical Trial center currently conducting a dozen IRD clinical trials, the Center for Ophthalmic Optics and Lasers that includes the pioneers in OCT and OCT angiography imaging, high level facilities for small animal research, and close collaboration with the Oregon National Primate Research Center which has state-of-the-art facilities for ophthalmic research in nonhuman primates and the availability of naturally-occurring and gene-edited IRD models.
