The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). Oregon Health & Science University is always looking for qualified postdoctoral scholars to fulfill its mission of conducting leading edge research into new cures, new standards of care, and a better understanding of the basic science that drives biomedical discovery. The postdoctoral experience provides individuals who have recently completed a doctoral degree with a full-time program of advanced academic preparation and research training under the guidance of a supervising faculty mentor.  Postdoctoral appointments are temporary by nature and are designed to develop the postdoctoral scholar as an independent scientist and to enhance their professional skills for academic and non-academic careers.   A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available for funded research into the immunology of malaria infection, protective immunity and vaccines. The lab focuses on host-parasite interactions in malaria using limited in vitro culture, traditional rodent models, humanized liver mouse models and non-human primates. Preferred technical skills include cell culture, standard molecular biology techniques (RNA/DNA isolation and analysis), standard immunolgical techniques (ELISA, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry) and microbiology techniques with a preference for previous work in malaria. - Responsibilities include ensuring that all licensing and credentialing is in place. The program administrator will be responsible for ensuring that all personnel are oriented to OHSU and integrated into their respective departments including surgery, anesthesia, emergency department, ICU and EMS.  The program administrator will be responsible for producing reports on a regular basis describing the activities of all Army personnel and answering all questions related to the activity of these individuals including operations performed, patients managed and procedures performed also known as Knowledge Sills Assessments or KSAs.  The program administrator will address all problems that arise during the conduct of the program and work with the Director of the AMCT3 to resolve these problems.  The program administrator will attend all meetings that are necessary to conduct the program in collaboration with the Army.  The program administrator will be responsible for collecting data for research related to the program. - The Program administrator will work with the SMART NCO IC in advance of the rotation to plan, design and coordinate the training event with the respective OHSU clinical units. This work includes a variety of administrative tasks to ensure the collection of appropriate medical and training information to ensure compliance with hospital requirements and completion of logistics to include badging, parking and other arrangements. - The program administrator will provide daily oversight and management of Army personnel for the duration of the training rotation to ensure the training plan is implemented as designed and training objectives are met. They will be an advocate for Army personnel and intervene should changes in the schedule or training plan need to be made. Also to serve as resource for Army personnel throughout the rotation for any issues or concerns relating to OHSU. - Clinical precepting: The program administrator will assist the soldier in meeting specific military readiness requirements for their particular medical specialty. The program administrator will precept the soldiers in the Emergency Department (ED) and the Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit (TSICU) by validating skills daily using a checklist provided by the AMEDD Medical Skills Sustainment Program Office. Preceptors will maintain responsibility and oversight for all direct patient care/treatment while working with Army personnel. - The program administrator will educate additional clinical preceptors about the SMART program goals and objectives and their preceptor role and responsibilities. They will share the soldier's biography and scope of practice in advance of the rotation along with their ICTs. They will make arrangements for preceptor (s) to meet with SMART participants as part of an introductory orientation prior to the start of the rotation, if possible.

The OHSU Digestive Health Center (DHC) is a multi-disciplinary center offering services in the ambulatory setting for specialty surgical services, gastroenterology, hepatology, bariatrics and nutrition.  The programs work in a close team that includes MD, RN, MA, and schedulers that work together to provide excellent quality care for complex patients.
