The Senior Research Assistant will support the ongoing studies in pregnant and neonatal nonhuman primates (NHPs) and other animal models, including models of intra-uterine infection, preterm labor and perinatal brain injury. This position requires a hardworking, dedicated individual who can work independently and be responsible for the management of NHP experiments, laboratory inventory and supervision of other lab members and trainees/students. Knowledge of reproductive science, neuroscience and/or microbiological techniques is highly desirable. The duties of this position will include, coordination and scheduling of NHP studies, working directly with pregnant and neonatal NHPs, laboratory-based experiments and other duties as required. NHP work will involve sedation and monitoring, observations, sample collection, behavioral testing and tissue collection at necropsies. In addition, this role includes research support and management of the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery as it relates to current and new animal experiments/models. A dedication to high-levels of animal care and welfare is required. Laboratory work will include experimental setup and analysis of biological samples by microbiological culture techniques, bacterial inoculation, dilution, standardization, PCR and identification of bacterial growth in culture, in addition to molecular and immunohistochemical analyses and routine laboratory duties such as ordering, solution preparation, data entry/reporting, statistical analysis and troubleshooting/problem-solving in order to complete experimental aims.

Customer Service - Provide high quality customer service to both external customers (patients, referring providers, insurance carriers) and internal customers (OHSU health care providers, staff) that meets or exceeds the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face customer contact skills, crisis management, standard complaint processing, flexible coverage of internal and external service needs, and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills. Document accurately telephone calls from patients regarding requests for medication refills, complaints, general information inquiries, and urgent health care concerns.    Schedule patient appointments– The PAS also work in the Call Center within the CWH. In the Call Center, the PAS answers the incoming phone calls. They are scheduling appointments, sending in-basket and Telephone encounters to Nurse and Providers via the Epic system. They also will arrange patient transportation through OHSU's VIP transportation systems when necessary and accommodate other special needs whenever possible (Language interpreters, Hearing impaired Interpreters, etc.). The PAS are also involved in obtaining prior medical records and images if appropriate. If needed, they follow-up and track requests for outside records.   Check patients in - When the patient arrives for their appointment, the PAS greets the patients and confirm that an appointment has been kept. They will inspect insurance cards and/or authorization notices. Identify and collect deductible payments, co-payments, and deposits on services; provide receipts and complete necessary accounting procedures. Explain and satisfy any necessary patient signature requirements .verifies the demographics, Insurance, and appointment time.  The PAS will also have the patient sign needed paperwork, and check the patient into the Epic Cadence system. The PAS may need to talk with the patient about Research Studies happening in the CWH, among other general information the patient may need. The PAS is also communicating with the Clinical Staff so they can communicate if Providers are running late, or need something additional from the patient.

The successful candidate for this position will be expected to independently contribute to and actively participate in research projects related to studies in nonhuman primates (NHP) to advance HIV antibody therapeutics and cure research. Training will be required and provided to prepare for participating in NHP lab animal experiments including handling of NHP for passive antibody and vaccine studies. Research will include working with infectious agents, including Simian/Human Immunodeficiency Virus (SHIV) in a BSL-2+ containment laboratory. A working knowledge of the use of PET/CT technology and analysis for medical research purposes is desirable, but specific training for supporting these studies will be provided as part of the candidate’s training. Candidates for this position will be evaluated for laboratory skills and experience that include general immunology-related assays, protein biochemistry, mammalian cell culture, Flow Cytometry, FACS sorting, and molecular biology and cloning techniques. The Senior Research Assistant will join a laboratory that is studying the central nervous system mechanisms of involuntary weight loss and wasting (cachexia) during the development of cancer.  The project involves the use of in vitro and murine models to understand the impact of peripheral cancers on autonomic nervous system function in the periphery. This project also has an associated clinical trial that will provide samples and data to confirm the basic hypotheses generated in the preclinical work. This NIH-funded study will define mechanisms of autonomic nervous system plasticity in the setting of chronic stress and inflammation, and will test novel therapeutics to address this debilitating condition.     Daily responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments, data acquisition and analysis, record-keeping and attending weekly lab meetings to present research findings.

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. This position will be ranked as Assistant of Associate Professor, depending on education and experience of the finalist. - Education: This position serves as the Director of the Electrophysiology fellowship program. Duties include steering the direction of the EP fellowship program, engaging faculty and staff in programmatic endeavors. As teaching is an important portion of the cardiology mission, this position will be responsible for the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows and disseminating information to the Cardiology group and OHSU in general through Grand Rounds presentations. As is selecting, mentoring and developing the skills of program participants. - Clinical: This position serves as clinical cardiologist in the electrophysiology section in the Knight Cardiovascular Institute. Duties include clinic outpatient and in-patient rotations, efforts in the electrophysiology lab and at KCVI’s outreach locations. This position will be responsible to serve a fair share of call coverage. - Administration:  As the Director of the Electrophysiology fellowship program, this position will have dedicated FTE to meet the administrative requirements of the position. Other Administrative duties will be assigned based on your interests and Institute needs.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). The APP is a member of the OHSU & Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC) Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The APP shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The APP is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU & Hillsboro Medical Center policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice. Duties of the position include:   Clinical Activities:   - Evaluates and manages patients for wound care and ensures delivered care meets current standards of practice. - Demonstrates competency in the position of wound care including assessment and debridement. - Participates in the Quality Improvement Program to optimize quality service and maintain a high level of patient satisfaction. - Serves as a patient advocate, initiating action to provide continuity of care outside of the facility setting. Operations:   - Maintains and retains appropriate patient records, claims and correspondence as it relates to quality assurance procedures, billing & collections, and management reporting systems. - Ensures documentation is complete relative to the care provided. - Ensures signatures on Superbills and verifies appropriate diagnostic codes are marked. - Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations. - Performs designated administrative duties and maintains appropriate records and claims.  Other:   - Develops advanced knowledge of wound care and dermatology. - Maintains corporate confidentiality pertaining to financial arrangements and information, marketing efforts and techniques, policies and procedures, and operational strategies.  - Demonstrates the ability to modify treatment approach and evaluation of effectiveness relative to age-specific variables when appropriate. - Participates in education, research and leadership activities. - Participates in professional organizations related to wound care. - Maintains CEUs as required by State of license. - Maintains and keeps current all licenses, permits, registrations and certifications. - Performs designated administrative duties and other duties assigned as necessary.
