A Postdoctoral Scholar position with a bioinformatics/computational, experimental, or dual focus is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Brian J. O’Roak, Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) for highly motivated individuals. Highlights of Dr. O’Roak’s past research successes include: pioneering trio-based exome sequencing in simplex autism and developing new technologies for rapid and economical targeted resequencing.   We are building on this experience by forming a strong and diverse research group focused on developing and implementing cutting-edge methods and technologies for discovery and replication, molecular diagnosis, functional dissection of pathways, and targeted therapeutics for neurodevelopmental and related disorders. This work has the potential to dramatically improve the lives of individuals affected with these currently untreatable disorders through early intervention and biologically based personal therapies.   Areas of interest include: genomics, single-cell genomics, modeling of neurodevelopmental disorders in stem cell (iPSC) and animal systems, massively parallel functional assays, and bioinformatics.   In particular, there is an immediate need for a fellow with next-generation sequence analysis experience to lead a project exploring the role of germline mutations and somatic mosaicism in autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g. neural tube detects), for which long-term funding currently exists. This would build on our work recently published in the AJHG (see Krupp et al. 2017).   Salary for this position aligns with the NIH Scale.

Hiring Bonus up to $12,000 DOE and Relocation Package Available. Must begin work by July 1, 2024 to qualify.    $49.16-$78.18 per hour, based on RN Degree and level of experience.   The OHSU South PACU provides 24/7 perianesthesia care to adult patients as well as some pediatric patients. The department cares for Ambulatory, Acute Care, and Critical Care patients arriving from home, the emergency department, or from the In-Patient setting and prepares them for surgery or other procedures. We also recover patients from anesthesia after their surgeries and transition them to the inpatient setting or discharge them home. OHSU is a Magnet designated hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center, and the only Academic Medical Center in the state of Oregon. The PeriAnesthesia nurses are responsible for assessing patient and family needs, planning and coordinating care, and for consultation of interdisciplinary services. Procedures and treatments provided in the PeriAnesthesia Department include but are not limited to: placing venous access, drawing bloodwork, medication administration, fluid and blood administration, radiography, ultrasonography, intubation, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Patient population and diagnoses vary from minor to critical to include both elective and emergent surgeries. The PeriAnesthesia Team works to determine level of care based on patient stability, discharge appropriateness, and resource and referral allocation. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 to 1:4 based on ASPAN standards and the patient's dynamic stability and acuity. TTP Specialty Fellowship Program: 2-years of current nursing experience in non-critical care environment BLS must not expire during the TTP Residency Program. Current ACLS certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA by the start date. Existing OHSU workforce members are not required to have ACLS before the start date per policy HC-HR-111-POL-RR. ACLS must not expire during the TTP Residency Program. This position as a Senior Cupid Application Analyst will design applications or workflow specifications for some of the most complex and critical OHSU systems and applications. Specifically, the Sr. Analyst will (1) Participate in the development, documentation, testing and validation of new Cupid workflows and interfaces (2) Perform Cupid system build, testing and maintenance (3) Assume project management responsibilities for medium to large projects or sub-projects as assigned (4) Respond to issues and change requests submitted by Epic end users and OHSU leadership, making recommendations on options to meet present and future system and customer needs (5) mentor and provide training to less senior and experienced team members, and acts as a lead to other analysts on certain projects to ensure that deliverables and objectives are met.

The Campagna Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery supports one year of intensive and comprehensive post-graduate training in the care of pediatric neurosurgery patients. The fellow will be appointed as a Clinical Instructor at Oregon Health and Science University.   The fellow will actively participate in operative and clinical management of a broad range of pathologies, including neoplastic processes of the brain and spine, cerebrovascular anomalies, congenital disorders, craniofacial disorders, hydrocephalus, spasticity, epilepsy, spine pathologies, and trauma. In addition to operative activities, the fellow will be responsible for running the pediatric neurosurgery service, teaching residents and medical students, and participating in academic and didactic conferences.

The successful candidate will join an established and energetic research group focusing on clinically-relevant strategies for prevention and cure of HIV at the Oregon National Primate Research Center of OHSU. This position will support ongoing pre-clinical studies exploring transplant immunology and HIV virology using the macaque model of human disease. Previous individuals in this role have successfully matriculated into graduate and medical school. Responsibilities include a variety of laboratory procedures such as blood processing, ELISA, and flow cytometry, as well as data entry, statistical analysis of data, and reporting of research findings in written and oral formats. - This position supports a collaborative research initiative which aims to associate state assisted living regulations with care outcomes. Our research group has multiple NIH funded grant initiatives which rely on a longitudinal dataset documenting the presence or absence of specific regulatory provisions for each assisted living license across all 50 states and DC. Collaborates with management staff to assure that Par levels are adjusted as utilization changes. - Performs unit specific tasks that contribute to overall operations and regualtory compliance such as Hearing Screens, Case Management support and quality data collection as directed. - Transporting unsterile supplies to the Sterile Processing Department. Cleaning and maintaining patient care equipment such as IV poles, isolettes, infant warmers, bedside tables. Patient Care Management - Responsible for coordinating and managing aspects of the patient's clinical care process. Works with the providers by providing support with medication refills and providers support to the patient and family. Places lab, diagnostic and scheduling orders as directed by the physicians and coordinates with facilities and patients. Monitors the Epic in Basket messages and ensures timely response is received by patient, providers and answers messages within their scope. Monitors refill request received in Epic and from Right fax and manages this efficiently to avoid disruption in patient care. Manages Prior Authorization and processes appeals appropriately. Insures all needed testing is resulted and in the patients EMR prior to appointments/procedures.   Care coordination - Ensures patients follow through with outside referrals to other specialties, labs and diagnostic imaging. Requests and inputs the results of the outside testing into the EMR and forwards to the provider/RN for review. Works with provider and RN to insure patients are completing needed testing according to their surveillance schedule.  Communication - Provides information and education to patients, family members, and referring physician office staffs. Acts as communication link with physicians, nurses, referring physician offices, ancillary services, and patients. Provides accurate patient information. Responds to voice mail and email messages based on priority of patient process and as triaged by the RNs. Attends MD/department team meetings as appropriate.  Responds to patient questions in Mychart, phone calls, emails, and faxes in regards to scheduling or care issues within scope.   Documentation/Data Management - Documents legibly, concisely and completely to ensure that others can accurately assess the status of patients' progress by reviewing that documentation. Radiologist support/Arranged Care - Assisting in provider communications, looking up studies in a variety of computer systems, assist referring physicians with radiologist coverage, assisting radiologists with outgoing phone calls to referring physicians. Assisting radiologist in getting referring physicians on line to report critical findings, assisting radiologists with getting outside images into EI, filling out CD upload form, tracking image status informing radiologist when in EI. Answer multi-line telephone, aids with clarifying orders, and notifying clinics of errors. Answering phone calls, looking up studies in a variety of computer systems, assist referring physicians with radiologist coverage. Scheduling Support for the Breast Center - Receives and distributes incoming mail and faxes to appropriate people - Routinely addresses physician and technical staff needs for clerical support in a courteous and expeditious manner. - Uses Radiology Information System and Hospital EMR (EPIC,) to maintain, enter, and retrieve patient information and medical records for appropriate uses. - Facilitates communication between all disciplines including contacting facilities requesting images and reports. - Print daily reports and sort for mailing and update Epic as needed - Print Daily Recall Letter and verify address. Edit in MRS as needed - Print out Short Term Recall Letters and verify address, if orders were placed. Serves as liaison and information resource for physicians, nursing support staff, coworkers, IP Admitting Department, Surgery Office, and Periop Services. Collects from physician and clinics all information necessary order information to schedule a scan (including ICD10 codes, diagnosis, equipment needs, etc.). Facilitates care arrangements by scheduling PCU time, preops, PNC clinic, ancillary and clinical services as needed. Applies problem solving and negotiating skills in resolving provider and patient concerns and other imaging related problems.

Customer Service: - Provide high quality customer service to both external customers (patients, referring providers, clinics, insurance carriers) and internal customers (OHSU health care providers, staff) that exceeds the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face and telephone customer contact skills, crisis management, familiarity with available information technology, standard complaint processing, flexible coverage of internal service needs, and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills. Arranged Care: - Obtains prior medical records and imaging studies if appropriate. Answer multi-line telephone, aid with clarifying orders, and notifying clinics of errors. Arranges stretchers, wheelchairs, and interpreters when necessary, and accommodate other special needs whenever possible. Mail information packets. Provide personal reminders to patients about upcoming appointments. Schedule patient appointments. Point of Service Operations: - Greet patients and confirm that an appointment has been kept. Inspect insurance cards and/or authorization notices. Identify and collect deductible payments, co-payments, and deposits on services; provide receipts and complete necessary accounting procedures. Verify and update the common data set on-line. Monitor patients waiting for services and follow-up with staff and management as necessary regarding delays. Explain and satisfy any necessary patient signature requirements. Demonstrates ownership and authority for the patient experience while in the waiting room and on the phone. Enrollment & Authorization: - Gather and/or verify patient information including demographics, insurance coverage, and financial status. Confirm patient eligibility for health care coverage and clarify any managed care arrangements. Verify appropriate accounts are active and associated with services to be received. Confirm authorizations for imaging procedures and laboratory studies. Enter all information accurately into OHSU databases or into the medical record when necessary. Follow up on pending authorizations until they are obtained.

Event Management - Manage the event reporting system: read PSIs on daily basis to identify individual harm and system concerns, conduct further analysis and facilitate completion of investigations and action planning as appropriate. - Share patient safety expertise to coach department leaders to investigate reported events that do not require investigation at a system level. - Lead and complete Root Cause Analyses, Case Reviews, and Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analyses to identify systems concerns and identify action planning to mitigate risks. - Partner with Executive Leaders, Risk Management, and Patient Advocates to review findings from preventable harm event reviews. - Complete quality review for patient grievances received from the Patient Advocate Office and Insurance and other payors. - Conduct on-going and focused analyses with patient safety incidents to help identify priorities, improvement opportunities, trends, and improved performance Program Coordination - Work with the Patient Safety Program Manager to implement the Patient Safety Plan. - Serve as the facilitator of assigned projects and priority areas. - Develop dashboards and reports for Clinical and Hospital Departments, Safety Oversight and OMS committees, Patient Safety Review Committee, and the Administrative Team. - Extract data for internal/external reporting and provide data and analysis to Clinical and Hospital Departments, and Vizient PSO. Facilitate and/or lead complex initiatives and systematic changes to meet internal and external quality/safety validation - Utilize external databases and resources (Vizient, PSO, Oregon Patient Safety Commission, The Joint Commission, DNV) to benchmark performance and identify best/better practices - Act as the facilitator and/or content experts for projects that require bringing together diverse groups with multiple perspectives to develop a shared understanding of the issues that provide the basis for the identification of system changes. - Provide support and assistance for the implementation of system changes throughout the organization. - Continuously contribute to the effectivness of the OMS reporting process - Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the leading safety initiatives relevant to OHSU. Education and Consultation - Develop, revise and provide education and training on patient safety to faculty, staff and clinical leaders - Provide expertise in the patient safety principles to support ongoing maturation of a culture of safety and just culture at OHSU - Present patient safety data and information at department and hospital committee/department meetings and orientations as requested.
