Responsible for the comprehensive nutritional assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, and nutrition monitoring and evaluation of OHSU patients. Assessments are developed from defined clinical criteria/data and are documented in the patient's medical record. Develops nutrition care plans to manage nutrition care for disease states, prevent complications, reduce morbidity and mortality due to malnutrition or change in feeding modality. The Mother Baby Unit serves a wide variety of patient populations. Our Midwifery group is the only provider of hospital water birth in Portland. Specialists in the OHSU Perinatal Center provide comprehensive care and consultation for women with high-risk pregnancies. Our nurses also care for general OB patients. Supporting moms and babies with breastfeeding is important to our nurses. Many of our nurses are Certified Lactation Consultants. The PIMC nursing team facilitates nursing cares which mimic a step down intensive care unit versus an acute floor. The patients cared for on the PIMC involve multiple organ system failures and range from 1 day old to 18 years old (sometimes up to 22 years old if still followed by pediatric physicians).
