Echo Procedures. - Determines and instructs patient in proper preparation for exam; explains examination process and procedure to patient; positions patient for each examination to maximize effectiveness of image and minimize patient discomfort; adjusts equipment controls; modifies each study during the exam to demonstrate the anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics and/or pathology accurately; determines need for additional views depending on patient variables or demonstrated pathology; manipulates transthoracic transducer by hand over diagnostic area in order to image cardiac structures and visualize hemodynamic flow patterns as necessary; selects appropriate scan based on significant functional and/or anatomical pathology; records representative images for review by Cardiologist. Performs transthoracic echocardiography on pediatric patients to include the evaluation of complex congenital heart lesions, and pre/post-operative cardiac assessment; to include premature and micro-premature infants on high frequency ventilators. - Provides transthoracic echocardiography on outreach pediatric patients throughout Oregon. During certain invasive procedures, gives physician measurements, estimations, angles, and guidance. (These invasive procedures may include but not limited to; pericardial centesis, balloon atrial septostomy, blade atrial septostomy, balloon valvuloplasty. Assists physician in the application of transesophageal and/or intra vascular ultrasound in the cardiac catheterization laboratory or surgical suites. Records and Reports. - Schedules patients from phone or written physicians’ request; obtains clinical data from patient chart or referring physician; arranges digital images of exam findings in logical sequence for patient's permanent medical record; maintains patient files (e.g., records patient identification and corresponding examination procedures); verbally reports summary of patient's medical history and pertinent exam findings to Cardiologist. Miscellaneous. - Demonstrates echocardiography techniques and principles to assist students and Cardiology Fellows in performing the echocardiography exam; processes images in digital format; performs routine cleaning and adjustments on machines and reports any mechanical failures to supervisor; utilizes hazardous cleaning/sanitizing chemicals for esophageal probe; utilizes computer/ultrasound machine data for additional analysis; performs periodic quality control tests to ensure proper operation of equipment; keeps abreast of new techniques and technological changes by attending workshops and seminars. The successful candidate will work as Project Leader on a variety of projects under the direction of Andrew W McHill, PhD, Assistant Professor and Director of the Sleep, Chronobiology, and Health Laboratory within the OHSU School of Nursing. The Postdoctoral fellow will work on research that is aimed at understanding the effects of disturbed sleep and circadian rhythms on physiology and pathophysiology in humans. In particular, we are investigating the adverse health effects of short and disrupted sleeping patterns, food choice, shift work, and the mechanisms underlying the adverse health of performing activities during the night. These studies will lead to interventions designed to improve the health, safety and well-being of shift-workers and vulnerable populations.   Primary duties will include data collection and management, developing scientific ideas, writing grant applications and manuscripts, and supervision of research staff. The successful candidate will be proficient in project management and independently monitoring study operations, budget management and managing human subjects IRB protocols and modifications. Shift work and weekend work (including night-time data collection) is expected. Additional duties can include overseeing and managing research equipment, materials, and logistics (with the assistance of research staff).   Experience with making measurements in human physiology, data analysis, and overseeing research studies is required. Experience with circadian, sleep, or nutritional studies, measurement of cardiovascular and metabolic variables, accelerometry, and experience with longitudinal data are desirable. The Clinical Coordinator works directly under a directors for the Center for Embryonic Cell & Gene Therapy (CECGT) Principal Investigators (PI) and/or Research Manager and will be responsible: for the conduct of clinical research with human participants; the development and/or management of regulatory compliance with clinical research protocols; screening, enrollment, recruitment, consenting, financial compensations and retention  of all research participants for the CECGT. Coordinates study visits, research schedules, obtain consent, blood draws, sample collections, monitors research activities, participation, assists with all clinical projects  and national and  international clinical trials and all regulatory processes.  The OHSU CECGT reports to the Chief Research Officer and is a critical scientific and clinical research center at OHSU with specific focus on human gamete, embryo and embryonic stem cell research.   The Clinical Coordinator represents the Center at various OHSU groups and task forces and must operate with great accuracy and efficiency. Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Clinical Coordinator interacts with research leadership, administration, and IRB and provides clinical research support for faculty, staff and collaborators.   This position oversees all compliances with internal and external regulatory agencies for clinical research, and prepares protocols and manages regulatory compliance documentation for  IRB, FDA, IND, SRC, IRAP, DSMC committees. This position serves as the regulatory liaison between the director and all monitoring entities. A successful Clinical Coordinator will have and maintain a working knowledge of FDA, DHHS, international law, and other agency guidelines that govern clinical research globally.   Overall, the Clinical Coordinator promotes the mission of the Center for Embryonic Cell and Gene Therapy by exhibiting reliability, productivity, professionalism, accuracy, timeliness, problem-solving, strong ethical understanding of our complex scientific focus, strong legislative focus and understanding of current congressional legislation, as well as compassion and kindness when communicating with research participants, outside organizations, and OHSU doctors and staff including physicians, nurses, and medical assistants.

Customer Service: -  Provide high quality customer service to both external customers (patients, referring providers, clinics, insurance carriers) and internal customers (OHSU health care providers, staff) that exceed the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face and telephone customer contact skills, crisis management, familiarity with available information technology, standard complaint processing, flexible coverage of internal service needs, and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills. Enrollment & Authorization: - Gather and/or verify patient information including demographics, insurance coverage, and financial status. Confirm patient eligibility for health care coverage and clarify any managed care arrangements. Verify appropriate accounts are active and associated with services to be received. Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research): This position provides primary clinical care in the Center for Women’s Health primary care clinic. This position works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive primary care to women, both adult and adolescent. This care may expand to male patients. This faculty member is expected to provide an outstanding level of clinical performance. The expectation is that clinical performance be delivered in a manner that is compliant with appropriate regulations and guidelines (JCAHO, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and all other state, federal, and institutional regulatory guidelines).   Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.): Like all OHSU OB/Gyn faculty members, advanced practice providers are expected to have some scholarly activity, this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. APP faculty members are often called upon to partner with other providers and members of the department or division research support staff in research activity. APP faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.   Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught): This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in either OB/Gyn, Internal Medicine or Family Medicine rotations. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the OB/Gyn or Primary Care environment, this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in the CWH Primary Care Clinic. This person would also be expected to provide feedback and guidance in the continuing development and improvement of educational programs in OB/Gyn and possibly in primary care educational programs. Administrative Activities: As an OHSU faculty member this person would be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level. The Research Assistant 2 will support the ongoing and newly funded research projects of the Axthelm Laboratory at the Oregon National Primate Research Center of OHSU. The incumbent will perform a variety of hands on procedures with non-human primates (NHPs) and may assist with and perform technical and laboratory procedures. The applicant may work in concert with other laboratory staff on the West Campus to accomplish a variety of hands-on procedures with NHPs such as collecting and processing tissues, phlebotomy, administrating experimental compounds/ anti-retroviral drugs/ medications, and monitoring of NHPs during procedures as dictated by study design. They may provide technical and administrative support for a range of projects, prepare data sets and reports, coordinate with surgical and clinical teams, and regulatory documentation as applicable. They will be responsible for general lab support duties, including maintenance of laboratory supplies/ equipment, sample collection preparation, sample storage and organization, and sanitation. The Axthelm Laboratory also has a strong emphasis on supporting pathology and necropsy for research purposes. The Research Nurse is responsible for the clinical research activities for cardiomyopathy clinical research studies conducted at the OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute in the Department of Cardiology. The Research Nurse works collaboratively with other staff and provides services, as assigned by the clinical trials leadership team and/or the cardiomyopathy section head, in furtherance of the university’s mission and goals. The primary objectives of this position are to recruit, screen, monitor and document the subjects’ responses to clinical trial interventions. The Research Nurse provides monitoring and clinical expertise to ensure protocol adherence and accurate data collection. The Research Nurse will be responsible for administering investigational products through different routes including intravenous infusions, and in certain cases gene therapy or gene editing investigational products. In addition to direct research responsibilities, the individual in this position is responsible for mentoring OHSU or affiliate site staff members, and identifying opportunities for and implementing process improvement.    The research nurse will have a very strong understanding of research regulations, reporting requirements, and EMR documentation for research purposes.    This position will primarily support our Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy research team within the division of Cardiology, they may be reassigned secondary duties to support other sections within the Cardiovascular Medicine Clinical Trials Unit and Knight Cardiovascular Institute.
