The Research Assistant will support ongoing research at ONPRC on contraception and the role of steroid hormones in regulating reproductive tract. We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Senior Research Assistant to support CEDAR’s Specimen and Data Repository by coordinating the transport, processing, storage, and distribution of biological samples and data.These samples and the associated data will be a resource for researchers within CEDAR to support the innovation of new early detection technologies.   In this role you will work closely with the Research Project Coordinator for the CEDAR Specimen and Data Repository, and you will lead the specimen processing lab.  This position requires clear and timely communication with researchers and clinic staff, transport of clinical samples, and the proper processing and storage of multiple sample types. This position also involves patient medical chart review, clinical data accessing, annotation, and querying using the laboratory information management system(s).   Required skills include – strong documentation skills and attention to detail, the ability to design, implement, and follow sample processing protocols with limited supervision to ensure that all samples are collected and stored in an appropriate and consistent manner with proper data input and safeguards.  This position is responsible for ensuring that all processing work in the repository is done properly.  Most samples will be collected and processed during regular business hours, but flexible scheduling is necessary since there may be instances where a sample arrives early or late and must be processed.  This position is also the main point of contact between CEDAR researchers and our repository.

This position will support the development of methods for the validation of gene discoveries as they relate to cancer. The work aims to identify additional kinase and receptor targets and to define mechanisms responsible for disease pathogenesis. Our primary approach to identify genes crucial for malignant cell viability and growth in leukemia patients utilizes kinase inhibitor and CRISPR/Cas9 library screens combined with deep sequencing of primary patient samples and cell lines to identify functionally important signaling pathways required for leukemogenesis and resistance to targeted therapies. This position, working as part of a team of technicians, will support the ongoing processing of primary patient samples for use in downstream analyses. One area of focus will be aiding with CRISPR/Cas 9 library screens in cell lines to identify essential genes required for leukemogeneis and to identify compensatory pathway activation in the context of drug resistance. These experiments will be carried out in primary leukemia samples as well as cell line models.  Some evening and weekend work may be required. General responsibilities include basic molecular and cell biology techniques, mammalian tissue culture, and manipulation of patient bone marrow, flow cytometry, and analysis of data. The ability to work as part of coordinated team and a high level of attention to detail will be essential for this position. A bachelor’s degree is required and laboratory experience in cellular and molecular biology is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience. An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced researcher to join Dr. Theodore Braun’s and Gürkan Yardimci’s research groups as a Computational Biologist I at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR.   Dr. Braun and Yardimici have several collaborative projects investigating how 3D genome organization contributes to normal and malignant blood cell development. Dr. Braun is a physician scientist whose lab studies the process of clonal evolution in myeloid malignancies using high sensitivity and single cell epigenetic analysis of murine models and primary patient samples. Dr. Yardimci is a computational biologist whose lab develops new approaches for the analysis and interpretable modeling of single cell multi-omics assays to characterize cell states in heterogenous cell populations. This position will be a computational position with the fellow jointly mentored by Dr. Braun and Dr. Yardimci.   This position will involve analysis and interpretation of single cell multi-omic data sets generated in the Braun lab using single cell combinatorial indexing workflows applied to blood cells from human and mouse models. The fellow will work closely with the wet lab researchers to interpret data as well as design novel analysis approaches and algorithms to establish the relationship between chromatin accessibility, DNA methylation and 3D genome organization in cancerous blood cells. We are particularly interested in candidates who are experienced in genomics, epigenetics, chromatin organization and single cell biology. Reporting to the VP of Oncology Services, and working collaboratively with the Knight Cancer Institute Chief of Oncology Growth and Market Strategy, Physician in Chief, and operations directors and managers this position will lead transformational change initiatives aligned with the Cancer Business Unit and Cancer Service Line strategic plan.  This position will also have oversight of the Cancer Data Management Program (i.e. tumor registry) and practice change initiatives associated with the Centers for Medicare Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) Enhance Oncology Model (EOM). The Director will efforts that translates strategic initiatives into operational plans and then work with the operations directors and managers on ensuring implementation.  Initiatives will focus on efforts that span across the oncology program (e.g. across modalities or inpatient and outpatient).  This includes defining key metrics for success such that performance can be monitored and ensure new changes are sustained. The director will tailor organizational transformational initiatives using process, project, and change management techniques to ensure shared-accountability and successful outcomes within a highly matrixed and complex academic medical center and research institute environment. UME Program - Provides technical support, diagnostic help, operating instructions and formal training for use of core and location-specific multimedia equipment used by the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Program in administering the curriculum, in both a remote and in-person environment. - Requires extensive collaboration with users and customers which include UME leadership, UME staff, faculty block leads, thread directors, instructors, facilitators and all medical students in the UME curriculum (approx. 670 students). - Communications equipment and resources include computers, tablets, A/V equipment, and software programs including REEF Polling, Webex, Echo360, Exemplify, NBME secure browser, Ilios, OHSU’s Slide Tool and Anatomy Hive, along with the use of such teaching devices as slide advancers and iPads. Also included is guiding instructors through recording with the Echo 360 Capture software and providing links once uploaded to TSO staff. - Performs analyses/troubleshooting to resolve problems with hardware and software, as well as interfacing with medical students, UME staff and leaders regarding hardware, software, and network problems and tracking these issues to resolution. The position is responsible for  - analyzing, troubleshooting and diagnosing problems related to customer use of multimedia equipment and resources. - Attends meetings as a subject matter expert of technical information. - Assists medical students with troubleshooting curriculum-related issues with their learning devices including laptops and iPads/tablets, and also including issues related to Citrix, Duo two-factor authentication and other technology for remote learning. Informs students of updates to software, including delays in updating operating systems. - Works with the OHSU Office for Student Access and the UME Program Accommodation Liaison to meet technological needs for required student accommodations. Includes investigating and oversight of technology required for successful implementation of accommodations. - Provides support both in person and via remote access when teleworking, for ~30 UME faculty and staff computers, and basic IT support for ~300 student-owned computers. - Troubleshoots and repairs computer hardware, software, printer issues, and other accessories, including component-level isolation and replacement. - Installs and maintains new hardware and software. - Develops and conducts training for users with flexibility to learn new technologies as they train. - Provides client-side, cross-platform support for Exchange server email and calendar use, and other office software as needed, including running updates, checking cross-platform and version compatibility (especially Word documents and PowerPoint presentations), and seeking bug fixes and workarounds. - When ITG is not able or appropriate, provide support in-person and remotely, including e-mail, phone and screen sharing when needed with staff, faculty and students. - Provides basic training on teleconferencing and video conferencing systems. - Maintains website and SharePoint content and design. - Sets up, supports and instructs on usage of audiovisual hardware and software for presentations. Coordinates with EdCOMM department as needed. - Manages department loaner technology UME Program - Coordinates A/V setup, room setup and dismantling needed for daily lectures, labs and small groups. These areas currently include two learning studios, 16 classrooms and a storage room, all located in the RLSB. Includes movement of furnishings, moveable walls, etc.  Maintains medical equipment used in the UME curriculum. - Creates and maintains an organized system for all equipment, technical-related supplies, and ordering of these supplies within the UME Program including white coat inventory. - Maintains and tracks lecture presentation devices (such as slide advancers, microphones and iPads) and student and staff loaner computers. - Tests A/V equipment for functionality and reports complex issues to EdCOMM and/or ITG as needed. Schedules and edits Echo360 lecture recordings. This includes editing presentation titles, recorded channels  - (audio, content, camera), and removing unwanted recordings from student view. Oversees captioning of all recorded media. - Advises and assists with accessibility projects as needed to meet the needs of UME and student accommodations. - Contacts hardware and software vendors for information; testing new hardware and software for integrity and usability; analyzing routine and special project application requirements and recommending optimal hardware/software solutions; reporting project status and completion; setting priorities based on need and merit; reviewing technical journals and relevant literature to stay current with changes in technology; writing proposals for consideration or justification of new acquisitions; preparing technical reports to be used by management in making decisions about multimedia equipment and resources; serving as project leader for multimedia projects. - Attempts to restore data lost due to system failure or operator error. - Assists users with data transfers. - Recognizes signs of data corruption and takes steps to maintain data integrity. - Conducts performance analysis and takes action to improve system performance. - Maintains, strategizes and troubleshoots department backup systems, including servers and OHSU-sanctioned network/cloud storage.   UME Program - Serves as the Information Technology Contact (ITC) for the Dean’s Office staff located at the RLSB. - Serves the role of UME Program Liaison to EdCOMM and SoM IT in ensuring all needed multimedia equipment and resources are functioning properly within the UME student learning environments. - Monitors RLSB Wi-Fi issues (reported by any UME user), reporting to ITG and keeping UME program informed. - Responsible for installation and system maintenance of all core and location-specific multimedia equipment and resources. Assists with proper software and printer driver installation. Relocates equipment as necessary. - Coordinates with SoM IT for replacement of workstations and printers. - Coordinates requests for installation and wiring needs for new hardware; determines environmental and electrical requirements for new installations and computer moves; installs components of newly acquired multimedia equipment and resources, sets up and configures systems; installs software; maintains records verifying compliance with vendor licensing agreements; maintains software archives. - Documents application programs, user instructions, hardware and software installation procedures, software versions, operational procedures and maintains documentation to ensure accuracy; maintains lists of sign-on, passwords, location of equipment; maintains equipment inventory. - Fulfills role as technology liaison. - Coordinates and advances technology-related projects. - Instructs on usage for services including, shared mail and calendar groups and resources, listservs, network file share access (such as X drive), Citrix remote access, VPN access, website maintenance, and One Drive storage - Coordinates departmental/unit activities in the maintenance and management of computer systems. - Implements and maintains OHSU technology compliance standards. Purchasing and Records for UME - Evaluates routine and project-specific computing needs, makes recommendations and carries out technology purchasing. - Maintains inventory and warranty information for computers and printers. - Maintains software license records, to verify compliance with vendor licensing programs. - Provides data to inform annual budget process of upcoming IT needs. Other/Unit Specific Needs: - Maintains/updates minimum system requirements document for students and UME program. Creates and maintains support and troubleshooting documents utilized by instructors, staff and students (Examplify, Echo360 Capture software, NBME troubleshooting). - Provides UME Teaching Services with office assistance as needed, including monitoring shared TSO email and proctoring exams. - Responsible for ongoing development and enhancement of delivery services and systems to maximize efficiencies within UME software, hardware, supplies and storage space.

The Administrative Coordinator provides project support for management positions within the Knight Community Outreach and Engagement Program. - Screen patients for and obtain/record patient’s chief complaint, take accurate history of illnesses/surgeries (Ophthalmic and General), past ocular history, family history, drug allergies, and medications.  - Assist physician with completing/transferring patient information to the patient problem list as required per JCAHO.  - Perform ophthalmic testing as appropriate per patient.  This includes but is not limited to checking/documenting distance and near vision in adults and children with and without correction, clearly determining from patient history if the patient is needing new glasses on any given visit.  - Pupillary assessment to rule out afferent defect and to check pupil size (rule out asymmetry), corneal curvature, corneal pachymetry, corneal topography, color vision testing, must be proficient in performing lensometry including reading lenses with multifocal and progressive adds, power of sphere, axis of cylinder and cylinder power, and orientation of prism and measurement of interpupillary distance.  - Perform applanation tonometry, and utilize Tonopen (noncontact tonometry) to check intraocular pressure.  - Perform confrontation visual fields.  - Must be proficient in refractometry and auto refraction, fogging with astigmatic dials, cross cylinder refinement and measurement of accommodation.   - Must be able to perform cover/uncover test, alternate cover test and quantify strabismus.  - Must be able to document ocular motility, presence of strabismus or nystagmus.  - Must be able to perform Worth 4-dot test and Stereopsis test.  - Must be able to test near point of convergence, ductions, versions and vergences.  - Must be able to perform Potential Acuity Meter testing, Glare Testing.  - Instill dilating and other ophthalmic drops per physician’s instructions. - Perform calibration of automated and non-automated perimeters.  - Maintain a working  knowledge of computerized visual field programs, and be able to perform Amsler Grid testing.  - Maintain a working knowledge of disease processes that may affect the visual pathway and resultant changes in the visual field due to these disease processes in order to adequately perform Goldmann (non-automated) perimetry (central and peripheral).  - Perform SITA and Standard Humphrey (automated) (central and peripheral). - Assist doctors during examination as needed.  - Apply eye dressings, protective shields and dispense medications as directed by the physician.  - Provide patient instruction, education and assistance as required.  Always be willing to assist patients in clinic areas.  - Per standard guidelines, clean exam lanes and minor surgical instruments.  - Prepare for the sterilization process, either sterilizing instruments utilizing the sterilizer in the Minor Surgery Room per guidelines or preparing instruments to be sent for sterilization.  - Responsible for room maintenance including periodic cleaning of exam lanes.  - Keep rooms stocked with appropriate instruments, as well as necessary ophthalmic drops, per physician’s direction. Other duties:  - Take tech calls as needed to assist front desk scheduling team, refill pharmacy requests as per physician guidelines; fax/send glasses prescriptions as indicated.  - Set up ophthalmic examination rooms, stock supplies as necessary, perform minor repairs and triage to Clinical Engineering or outside vendors as necessary.  - Maintain instruments and be able to clean and properly sterilize items.  - Maintain ophthalmic exam rooms and ensure rooms are stocked, and have appropriate paperwork, and are orderly and clean.  This includes periodic cleaning of trial lenses and examining lenses, ordering of linens and medications from pharmacy.  - Open examination rooms in the AM and close in the PM (if clinic completed).  - Provide administrative assistance and support as required, assist in pulling patient charts and making appointment reminder phone calls as necessary.  - Duties include enlisting translators when necessary, procuring presurgery history and physicals from primary care physician’s offices, verifying patient insurance information, obtaining insurance authorizations/referrals where indicated, and handling faxes/calls for pharmacy requests.  - Being aware of patient’s financial/insurance status (pay scale if patient is self insured, and insurance coverage where valid) in the OHSU demographic database.  - Assisting physician in filling out forms such as Commission for the Blind forms and forms regarding the visual impairment of patients, and other such forms.  - Learn computer applications (scheduling, order entry, etc.) used in the clinic and achieve understanding of insurance authorization process.  - Assist in other clinic functions as necessary, including making appointments, preparing charts, answering phones or any other general duty as needed.  - Exhibit initiative and teamwork in performing all daily tasks.  Skills Maintanence and Certification:  - Participate in continuing education courses and activities.  - Have knowledge of and be able to practice JCAHO clinical guidelines.  - Demonstrate competence in all required skills during yearly skills evaluation.
