PRIMARY ROLE RESPONISBILITIES Include:

Patient Monitoring
- Tech documents a comprehensive patient history including Neurological symptoms and medications. Measures and accurately applies electrodes in less than 30mins and with appropriate impedance of <5kohms. Tech is able to use multiple electrode application techniques; observes, records, and attempts to eliminate artifact and body movements that can affect recording of cerebral activity, and prepares a technical report. Learns and applies basic EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPAA practices, and contraindications for activation procedures. This tech is occasionally paired with senior techs to learn and perform more complex recordings in the clinical setting.
EEG Examinations
- This tech performs routine and long-term EEG procedures under indirect supervision and in accordance with the standards and protocols of the department. Implements alternative methods or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings. Observes and records conditions and reactions of patients during exam; notes extraneous conditions which may affect recording; operates equipment; notes body movements for benefit of interpretation by neurologist.
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintains clean testing equipment, maintains proper sanitization of supplies and surrounding area, and reports equipment malfunctions in writing to our engineer.
Miscellaneous
- Performs tests for research purposes; prepares reports of recordings for interpretation by physician; edits, types, archives and stores files in accordance to lab policy. Informs lead tech when supplies and equipment need to be reordered. This technologist is able to communicate appropriately and effectively with the patient to convey the purpose of the EEG, and answer questions surrounding the test. Understands why and how to troubleshoot common EEG artifacts and protocols with a conscious effort to maintain safety standards.
Customer Satisfaction
- Follows OHSU’s customer service philosophy, and follows AIDET forms of communication. Works to understand and correct the most common customer service complaints. Follows customer service satisfaction scores and helps the department to achieve the highest level scores possible by working to become a leader in customer service.

Plumbing Activities: Makes simple repairs on old plumbing such as renewing washers and valves; cleaning and opening drains and other water lines. Assists licensed plumbers in installing new plumbing including pipes, drains, tubs, faucets, and other plumbing fixtures and equipment.
System Troubleshooting: Interprets system drawings, schematics and manuals to troubleshoot and optimize system operation. Understands system isolation mechanisms. Requisitioning

This non-OHSU student worker position will work in the Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS) with duties that encompass all missions of OHSU. EHS oversees/manages programs and policies aimed at minimizing safety, health, environmental, and regulatory risks to the OHSU community. This position will provide support for various EHS projects under the supervision, direction and support of EHS staff and managers. The mix of on-site and work-from-home responsibilities are dependent on the exact role, but have generally been about 70% on-site and 30% work-from-home. Work schedules are flexible and mutually agreed upon by EHS and the student worker.
Assigned tasks include, but are not limited to:

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides technical support to pharmacists through preparation of unit doses, data entry, delivery of medications, and cartfill exchange. Person working this shift is responsible for ensuring accountability and accuracy of standard operations procedures in these areas. Position works under direct supervision of a Pharmacist who is responsible for the safe and proper distribution and use of drugs in inpatients and outpatients who range in age from neonates, infants <1 year old, children and adolescents ages 1-18, adults ages 19-65, and the elderly age >65. Be able to perform duties as specified in Pharmacy Technician 1 and 2 Class Specifications as applicable to work unit.

IMAGING
- Operates multi-slice CT Scanners to perform exams with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of equipment.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill to evaluate anatomy and any related pathologies for presentation to the Radiologist.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in CT physics & Radiation Safety.
- Exercises responsible judgment in recognizing and reporting significant situations relating to patient care.
- Prepares and instructs the patient for the diagnostic exam using age appropriate communication skills.
- Adjusts scanning factors and patient positioning to eliminate or minimize artifacts due to patient habitus, motion, implants, or monitoring equipment.
- Adheres to the ALARA principle while optimizing the exam to obtain the highest image quality with the lowest possible radiation dose to the patient.
- Must be able to perform all ranges of exams after completion of technical competencies. Continues to stay current in regards to new CT technology hardware and software upgrades.
- Demonstrates specific normal and abnormal cross sectional anatomy/pathology through the use of scan techniques, reconstructions, and 3D post-processing.
DOCUMENTATION
- Verifies complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.
- Verifies imaging order and protocol in the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Responsible for correctly identify patients by complying with Imaging dept. Patient Identification Policy.
- Labels images completely & accurately with patient demographics, position or other required documentation.
- Follows through with all aspects of scanning duties in order to provide efficient and timely completion of examinations with correct data entry, begin and complete with correct billing and verification that images are in PACS.
- Technologists prescreen all patients for sensitivity & contraindications to contrast medications used during the imaging exam.
- Implements the correct types of contrast and injection factors on a case-by-case basis.
- Generates a CD or DVD of imaging exams on an as-needed basis.
PERSONAL & PATIENT CARE AND SAFETY
- Provides for personal and patient care and safety using professional judgment in accordance with written standards to avoid injury to self and others.
- Adheres to all established CMS, OHA, & DNV-GL Regulations, and reports errors or unsafe conditions to management and the OHSU Event Reporting (Patient Safety Intelligence).
- Follows universal precautions for blood and body fluids, protecting patients and staff.
- Explains the procedure to the patient to assure clear answers to their questions and concerns to allay any anxiety and assure patient confidence.

Patient Care Coordination and Front Desk Reception:
Customer Service:
- Provides high quality customer service to both external customers (patient, referring providers, and insurance carriers) and internal customers (OHSU health care providers and staff) that meets or exceeds the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face customer contact skills, crisis management, facility with available information, technology, standard complaint processing, flexible coverage of internal service needs, and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills. May assist in providing instruction and support for students during respiratory fit testing.
Enrollment & Authorization:
- Gathers and/or verifies patient information including demographics, insurance coverage, and financial status. Confirms patient eligibility for health care coverage and clarifies any managed care arrangements. Obtains authorizations for clinical care, procedures, and laboratory studies. Enters all information accurately into OHSU databased or into the medical record when necessary. Follows up on pending authorizations until they are obtained.
Arranged Care:
- Schedules new and established patient appointments on line, and manually if necessary, for all department providers (primary care, behavioral health, integrative medicine and wellness). Obtains prior medical records if appropriate. Creates a medical record if needed. Arranges stretchers, wheelchairs, and interpreters when necessary, and accommodates other special needs whenever possible. Provides personal reminders to patients about upcoming appointments. Obtains and prepares OHSU medical records before scheduled appointments. Obtains and prepares Student Health medical records to be sent out when requested.
Point of Service:
- Greets patients and confirms that an appointment has been kept. Inspects insurance cards and/or authorization notices. Identifies and collects deductible payments, co-payments, and deposits on services; provides receipts and completes necessary accounting procedures. Verifies and updates the common data set on-line. Explains and satisfies any necessary patient signature requirements.
Integrated Care:
- Arranges and orders associated clinical, diagnostic, or laboratory services; obtains authorizations when necessary. Directs patients to appropriate providers for other health care issues. Completes and routes direct referrals to other clinical services. Contacts primary care physicians or their designees to obtain authorizations for urgent care. Schedules return appointments on line, and manually if necessary; initiates authorization requests for subsequent care.
