- Operates multi-slice CT Scanners to perform exams with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of equipment.

- Prepares various diagnostic and therapeutic isotopes for patient administration.
- Utilizes applications of Planar, In-vitro, SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography), SPECT/CT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography/Computerized Tomography), and PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computerized Tomography) to optimize each image during the examination to obtain the highest quality study with the least discomfort to the patient.
- Assists the physician in invasive and/or specialized procedures, such as a therapy, sentinel node injection/localization, brain shunts as directed. Provides quality Planar, SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET/CT, and In-Vitro applications to acquire images or in-vitro testing, using optimal skills and knowledge of equipment.
- Evaluates normal/abnormal anatomy and any related abnormalities or artifacts for presentation to Radiologist using knowledge and principals of nuclear medicine, Gamma Camera planar, SPECT, SPECT/CT and PET/CT physics. Recognizes and reports significant situations relating to patient care.

The function of the Radiologic Technologist position within the Department of Diagnostic Imaging is to perform all phases of technical diagnostic imaging. Radiologic Technologists operate X-Ray equipment used to capture and develop images for the purpose of medical diagnosis. - Obtains benefit information including deductible or co-pays, co-insurance, stop loss or out of pocket status, and correct billing address. Collects cost-shares at time of service.
- Complete insurance verification on each patient’s insurance 100% of the time.
- Gathers, adds, updates, and/or verifies detailed demographic information and completed/signed forms required for services. These functions are performed at stationary computer terminalor or at patient’s bedside using a mobile computer terminal, occasionally over the phone.
- Completes Race, Ethnicity, Language, and Disability (REALD) questionnaire with patient face to face or over the phone and updates REALD Smart Form as required by law.
- Follows Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR’s) regarding workers’ compensation in operation of OHSU and industry workman’s compensation procedures. Also initiates and completes claims for worker’s compensation injuries, personal injury, motor vehicle accidents, and crime victim accounts by collecting detailed information of trauma admissions (motor vehicle accident, personal injury, and/or worker’s compensation) to determine accident-related liability.

- Monitors performance and proactively looks for system degradation or problem trends; provides feedback, problem assessment, and resolves the issues or proposes solutions to customers, and ITG support teams
- Provides analysis and testing of new hardware and software for integrity and usability
- Develops and/or participates in testing to assess the effectiveness and utility of temporary and permanent solutions for problems discovered in the field
- Analyzes special project technology requirements and recommends optimal hardware/software solutions
- Provides recommendations and assistance to other ITG staff in assessing and improving the tools, processes and procedures currently in use or proposed for future use.
- Develops and maintains expertise with current technologies and examine details of proposed future technologies to ensure effective and efficient deployment in research, and classroom environments.
- Participates in testing to assess the effectiveness and utility of proposed changes in tools, processes and procedures.
- Works with managers, technicians and customers to identify areas of concern and work to create efficient processes and procedures to ensure timely completion of projects, quality of support and resolution of problems; works collaboratively with other technical staff and management to identify trends and communicate issues that impact ITG personnel (root cause analysis).
- Assists ITG in developing a technology roadmap for the future.
Network Systems Administration
- Manage full lifecycle of network infrastructure equipment and services which includes planning, inventory management, configuration, communications, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Monitor network infrastructure, proactively addressing potential issues before they become service impacting, and reducing the impact when customers are affected.
- Mentor Field Technology Analysts and other ITG personnel when network related troubleshooting and service delivery is involved with their workflow.
- Use standard templates and models to deploy and configure ITG services. This includes all phases of operational work as well as all aspects of project work except service design which would require the input from a System Analyst Engineer.
Project Management
- Utilizes the ITG Solution Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process to implement and support all assigned projects.
- Coordinates with OHSU facilities, space planning, outside vendors and other ITG work units to provide project planning, scheduling and resource management for internal and external IT field projects
- Participates in project kick-off, implementation, and support and milestone meetings for those projects that require ITG resources for implementation and support; reports issues and concerns to manager as appropriate.
- Acts as the advocate for both ITG and the user community to present and/or assess project-related technical solutions and tools for implementation of new solutions.
- Assesses daily priorities and coordinates projects, problem tickets and other work with desktop support staff; monitor and report progress to management.
- Communicates issues arising from the need to incorporate (or not) modifications to desktop “builds” relating to updates in OS, NOS, hardware and/or drivers, based on experience and feedback from the field
- Performs all phases of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures. These procedures include but are not limited to: imaging bone, liver, kidney, brain, infection, and tumor localization and pharmacologic / stress exercise myocardial perfusion.
- Prepares various diagnostic and therapeutic isotopes for patient administration.
- Utilizes applications of Planar, In-vitro, SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography), SPECT/CT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography/Computerized Tomography), and PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computerized Tomography) to optimize each image during the examination to obtain the highest quality study with the least discomfort to the patient.
- Assists the physician in invasive and/or specialized procedures, such as a therapy, sentinel node injection/localization, brain shunts as directed. Provides quality Planar, SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET/CT, and In-Vitro applications to acquire images or in-vitro testing, using optimal skills and knowledge of equipment.
- Evaluates normal/abnormal anatomy and any related abnormalities or artifacts for presentation to Radiologist using knowledge and principals of nuclear medicine, Gamma Camera planar, SPECT, SPECT/CT and PET/CT physics. Recognizes and reports significant situations relating to patient care.
- Participates in research protocols under the supervision of physicians and supervisor.

IMAGING
- Provides quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment.
- Technologists will be trained in all general radiology exams/areas so that they are able to rotate through the department based on workflow needs.
- Utilize the VIP transportation system to arrange for patient delivery.
- Positions patient for diagnostic radiology exams according to department procedures, training, and machine requirements with a high regard for the safety and care of the patient.
- Operates radiology equipment, determines and sets exposure factors, sets technique utilizing all relevant factors to ensure accurate and quality images with minimal and acceptable repeat rates.
- Uses computer image processing, as needed to select, process, optimize and archive images to PACS.
- Completely tracks exams in the Radiology Information system.
- Develops and presents images and related patient information to radiologist for diagnosis.
- Assists with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures.
- Assists in the training of Radiologic Technology Students, and adheres to dept. policy on supervision of student technologists.
DOCUMENTATION
- Gathers complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.
- Responsible to correctly identify patients by checking their identity per department procedure.
- Reviews patient chart and orders to insure correct examination.
- Labels images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation. Follows dept policy on the use of anatomical markers.
- Logs activities, gathers charging information and charges exams as required.

PERSONAL & PATIENT CARE AND SAFETY
- Provides for personal and patient care and safety using professional judgment in accordance with written standards so there is no injury to self or others.
- Protects patients and others in the area by using proper machine settings and radiation safety standards.
- Practices universal and blood and body fluid precautions, and sterile practices according to procedures.
- Communicates and uses knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to insure appropriate and effective care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Shift Coordinator
- Coordinates shift assignments, patient transports between units or procedural areas, provides/coordinate breaks and meal periods for staff.
- Determine staffing requirements and workload assignments for respiratory therapists.
- Recruits staffing for upcoming short shifts.
- Coordinates staffing incentives with leadership; delivery and pickup of supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate requests from internal/external customers for Respiratory Care Services, prioritizes response to requests, and assigns appropriate therapists to requests (transports, evals, emergency responses, etc.)
Auditor
- Reviews patient medical records to ensure Respiratory Care Services were adequately billed, makes corrections if necessary, records data on charting inaccuracies, reports findings to supervisors.
- Perform chart audits and charge reconciliations. Adjusts orders to match prescribed therapy, and discontinues unnecessary orders according to policy.
Patient Transport
- Assures safety of patients on ventilators by accompanying patient to/from ICU and remaining with patient during testing procedure.
- May be part of team transporting critically ill infants, children and adults from the hospitals as primary resource to determine the most effective method of respiratory support and by setting up appropriate equipment and administering respiratory care during transport.
Charting
- Records type of therapy provided, medication, respiratory and heart rate, breath sounds and patients’ coughing ability.
- Results of ongoing assessment of patients on ventilators; records the number and type of therapies administered for each patient.
Respiratory Therapy
- Administers ventilatory assistance by means of endotracheal tube
- Administers aerosolized medications and instructs patient on proper breathing techniques.
- Performs therapeutic functions such as chest physiotherapy and tracheobronchial aspirations.
- Administers continuous and intermittent aerosol and humidification therapy.
- Instructs patients in the use of incentive spirometry devices and alternate breathing maneuvers to assist them in deep breathing.
- Administers oxygen therapy.
Patient Monitoring/Testing
- Performs advanced life support diagnostic procedures such as measuring exhaled carbon dioxide, performing arterial blood gas analysis, and measuring mean airway pressure on patients in intensive care unit.
- Provides technical input to aid medical staff in interpreting the results of diagnostic procedures.
- Assesses side effects of patients receiving aerosolized medications.
- Discontinues therapy when distress noted and contacts health care provider for further orders.
- Regularly performs complete assessment of patients on volume or pressure ventilators.
- Monitors patients receiving oxygen therapy, consults with physician, recommends improved therapies if side effects observed.
- Patient assessment for the purpose of protocol-driven care for bronchodilation and bronchial hygiene.
- Determination of optimal mode, dose, frequency and discontinuance of therapy.
- Perform bedside pulmonary function studies; perform airway care on natural and artificial airways.
Miscellaneous
- Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the event of patient cardiac arrest or assisting with procedures already started by maintaining adequate airway and ventilation.
- Teaches the theory and application of respiratory therapy procedures and equipment to physicians, nurses, other hospital staff, respiratory care students.
- Attends departmental staff meetings and in-services.
- Decontaminates or discards all respiratory care equipment and supplies used in treating patients in isolation.
Sets, adjust, manipulates and controls complex high energy equipment to apply therapeutic doses of ionizing radiation for treatment. Positions patients for therapeutic treatment with a high regard for safety and care of the patients. Exercises responsible independent judgment in recognizing and reporting significant side effects induced by radiation and maintains treatment records for accurate dose administration and observation of treatment response.
Supports managing the day-to-day clinical schedule of all therapists for machine treatment, ensure appropriate coverage during vacation, sick time, etc.
Supports employee lifecycle through hiring; orientation and training; guidance and counselling; performance appraisals; disciplinary actions; creation and revision of position descriptions; terminations; professional development, and maintenance of competency.
Oversees the training of Radiation Therapy Students and coordinates the student clinical training program.
