This position is for a Senior Research Assistant in the Knight Cardiovascular Institute, supporting research focused on coronary physiology (microcirculation) and vascular biology. Applicant must have previous research laboratory experience with handing rodents. They will be required to manage rodent colonies, genotype rodents using PCR, perform immunohistochemistry and assist in surgery. Other technical expertise required will include western blotting, managing cell cultures, and performing ELISA experiments.
Operations:
- Answering and dispatching all EVS 24/hr pager requests. Assists with dispatching EVS techs where needed. Manages heavy call volume through the shift.
- Familiar with numerous guidelines, instructions, regulations, manuals and procedures.
- Must work with multiple supervisors and admin staff on multiple shifts.

Assisting with staffing the Doernbecher Pediatric Emergency Department as assigned by the Chair and Executive Vice Chair; participation in education of medical and paramedic students, house staff and nurses; participating in Emergency Department quality assurance activities; and provision of on-line medical consultation.
The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. This position is under the supervision of the Chair of the Department of Surgery and the Head of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery. The trauma, critical care and acute care surgeon shall be expected to perform clinical and basic science research. Duties will also include resident, fellow, student and staff teaching. This position requires undivided effort at the specified FTE. The general pattern of working hours will be set by the Head of the Division, but deviations from general patterns may be necessary to meet projected requirements. The ideal candidate would have the potential to achieve independent federal research funding.
Reporting to the Sr. Associate Dean for Finance & Administration in the School of Medicine (SoM) and to the Sr. Associate Dean for Research, the position is responsible for administrative and financial management for the research mission in the School of Medicine. They will provide senior-level counsel and operational support to the Sr. Associate Deans and SoM Department Administrators with the purpose of ensuring that the research administrative, operational and financial services are provided in the most efficient and effective manner and with the highest integrity.
Under the direction of the Sr. Associate Dean for Research, assist in the development and implementation of strategic planning efforts for the research mission including the development of implementation plans and outcome measures. This position will act as liaison between all research programs, SoM, CRO, Provost, etc. to represent and coordinate the needs and interest of research administration from Chairs and DA’s in the SoM in coordination with the SAD for Research.
Grant Planning and Development:
- With minimal supervision, interprets sponsor guidelines and requirements. Grant submissions include NIH, DOD, foundation and industry-sponsored grants which may have multiple PIs, multiple institutions, and / or subcontracts. Independently liaisons with faculty, postdocs, grad students and other staff and faculty in other OHSU departments and other institutions to ensure that all appropriate pre-award administration, formatting, guidelines and rules have been implemented for timely and accurate submission of the department’s grants, projects and renewals. Prepares budgets and reviews applications for funding and processing. Drafts administrative components of the proposal including verification that all protocol information is in place for IACUC, IRB and IBC, and making sure all online courses are up to date and completed.
Grant/Contract Coordination:
- Serve as the lead for complex grants such as T32, U54, SPORE, P50, T90, etc. Coordinates and provides support to accounting, reporting, and other management requirements with grant recipients or contractors. Reviews plans / agreements, schedules, budgets, progress reports (RPPRs), or other grant / contract monitoring instruments to ensure contract or grant project / program performance. Identifies and resolves problems, assures appropriate and timely correction of grants administration and / or contract compliance issues. Independently coordinates proposal submissions. Discuss proposed resources (labor and non-labor). Draft administrative components of the proposal (including the budget and required subcontract documents) and coordinate submission to the sponsor with the Office of Proposal and Award Management (OPAM). Collaborates with the Department Administrator and Finance Administrator to develop and further optimize KCVI’s pre and post award workflows.
Locate Funding:
- Locates sources of available grant funds in published databases including InfoEd, Foundation Directory Online, grants.gov, RePORTER, American Heart Association, and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. Shares qualifying opportunities with faculty and research staff. Partners with investigators to locate funding based on a specific need or area of interest.
Training and Mentoring:
- Trains new and existing GCCs on OHSU resources, policies and procedures; InfoEd/Cognos use; OPAM standard operating procedures and service level agreement. Provides guidance on cost sharing, IDC rates. Provides oversite for all GCCs on complex grants (T32, U54, SPORE, P50, T90, etc.). Mentors other GCCs on resources and policies. Assists other basic science departments when back-up or additional GCC assistance is needed.
Contract Coordination:
- Translates program requirements into contract terms in consultation with management. Develops or ensures development of contract requirements containing quantifiable specification and measurable performance criteria. May use “Request for Proposal” to gather information from potential contractors to negotiate and clarify contract issues. May negotiate within contract service requirements limited to metrics, dates, and services provided. Composes contract wording and calculates contract payment rates and amounts.
Technical Assistance:
- Provides consultation, advice, and direction to all levels of OHSU staff regarding grant and contracting issues and methods which will best meet legal requirements and objectives. Safeguards the integrity of grant administration or contracted services and protects OHSU from financial losses due to adverse legal action or audit irregularities. 2.Duties will include molecular and cellular biology assays, flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, biochemistry assays, utilization of in-vivo models and associated techniques, cell isolation and DNA/RNA purification from bacterial cultures, mammalian cell cultures, in-vivo models and patient samples.

Clinical: This position will be a shared position with the Department of Orthopaedics and the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and will be based within the Department of Orthopaedics.
This position will help to provide non-surgical clinics for Orthopaedics to help diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses for nerve, muscle or bone injuries. They will help patients to assess condition, needs and expectations and rule out any serious medical illness to develop a treatment plan to meet their rehabilitation needs. Services provided in conjunction with APOM will include clinical evaluation and management of pain patients in the Comprehensive Pain Center utilizing psychological approaches, physical therapy, drug therapy, and interventional modalities. Care provided in the Comprehensive Pain Center (CPC) must be done in compliance with established guidelines of the CPC and in collaboration with APOM providers.
This position will work with the Department Clinical Medical Director to determine a clinical schedule that will help meet the needs of the Department and patient population. This position will also be expected to take call, as assigned, with other faculty on nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University is seeking to make an open-rank faculty hire during the next academic year, as part of our growing scientific efforts in the Center for Mental Health Innovation (CMHI). The mission of the CMHI is to advance scientific discoveries in mental health and rapidly translate those into real-world practices, thereby propelling the transformation of mental health care and improving lives. The CMHI is well-endowed and engages exceptional scientists in multiple areas of developmental psychopathology research, including developmental origins of mental health (maternal and infant), child and adolescent behavioral risk, ADHD, depression/suicide risk, and substance use, as well as using multiple methodologies including genetics, epigenetics, neuroimaging, neuropsychology and cognitive computational methods, and advanced analytics for prediction science. Clinical trials using novel treatments and precision biomarkers are underway. The Department and the CMHI are seeking applications candidates to join our faculty in the Fall of 2024. The appointee shall have a demonstrated competence in teaching. This position also contributes to the administration of the department as assigned by the Chair; specifically, by helping select residents and participating in administrative committees and councils of OHSU as approved by the Chair.
Providing an outstanding level of professional performance (e.g. quality of investigation for research faculty; quality of clinical care for clinical faculty; quality of administrative function in education office). Professional performance is to be delivered in a manner that is compliant with the OHSU Code of Conduct. Appointee shall treat all patients, research subjects, trainees and co-workers with dignity and respect.
Maintaining a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases. May develop and direct scholarly research activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within dermatology. May engage in public service through consultative activities with OHSU and non-University groups as approved by the Chair. May also participate in additional departmental or hospital administration as approved by the Chair. (Optional)

Assist physicians and RN with GI diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Prepare rooms with appropriate supplies and equipment for all assigned procedures.
- Assist physician to obtain specimens. Appropriately preserve, label, and dispatch specimens to lab.
- Manipulates equipment during procedure as requested by the physician.
- Collaborates with endoscopy team to assist with successful procedure.
- Identify and report to physician/RN any change in patient condition or complication of procedure.
- Assists with trouble shooting GI equipment such as but not limited to: scopes, monitors, video equipment, cautery equipment.
- Documents data as appropriate in medical record and records supplies used and patient charges.
- Provide fundamental components of patient care.
- Provide on call support for procedures after hours and on weekends on a rotational basis.
Patient care
- Provide patients with appropriate pre procedural education including answering questions regarding proper procedure preparation (in person or via telephone).
- Answers patient questions - as deemed appropriate for scope of practice including preparation required for procedure.
Equipment and Supplies
- Clean and disinfect scopes according to unit policies and procedure.
- Maintain equipment in proper working order. Inspect scopes for damage and protect to avoid damage during handling and cleaning.
- Report malfunctioning equipment immediately to charge nurse or manager.
- Send out equipment for repair or work with clinical engineering personnel to trouble shoot equipment or bring in appropriate repair technicians.
- Stock rooms with equipment and supplies.
- Monitor rooms/carts for outdated supplies
- Monitor supplies for outdate and communicate with materials manager regarding inventory needs and reorder consumable supplies as assigned by management.
- Document appropriately on stent logs and cleaning logs
- Perform routine equipment/eyewash/refrigerator checks and document to maintain compliance.
- Prepares supplies for autoclaving, receives instruments from sterile processing
- Is the unit expert on endoscopy supplies/instruments/tools and how they are used and maintained on the unit. Acts as mentor towards others who need to learn about these items.
Coordinate Activities
- Accomplish caseload assignments in a timely manner
- Communicate throughout procedure with provider and RN/
CRNA.
- Productively utilize unassigned time.
- Complete projects as assigned by management
- Participate in area specific continuous quality improvement program.
- Participate in orientation and in teaching area specific skills.

- Constant exposure to usual hospital environmental conditions.
- Exposure to x-ray.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals as well as high level disinfectants.

Must be able to;

- report to OHSU within 30 min of being paged when on call.
- lift and carry 40 lbs without assistance; bend, stoop, reach, pull and walk for your work period.
- stand for long periods of time, up to 4 hour intervals.
- push patients in stretches throughout the day.
- work for up to 4 hours at a time with a lead garment on for radiation safety.
- use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking.
- push and navigate large motorized cart throughout the hospital. have excellent fine motor skills for handling small sharp instruments
