Treats all patients, research subjects, trainees and co-workers with dignity and respect.   May maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases. May develop and direct scholarly research activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within anesthesiology and perioperative medicine. The Veterinary Pathologist works within the Pathology Services Unit (PSU) in the Division of Animal Resources and Research Support and provides advanced comparative pathology services to ONPRC core scientists, veterinarians, OHSU affiliates, and external investigators. The ONPRC maintains state of the art pathology facilities with Animal Biosafety Levels-2, 2+ and 3 necropsy suites, an excellent veterinary electronic health record system, highly trained pathology support staff and on-site clinical pathology and histology laboratories.  The facility provides the unique opportunity to work with nonhuman primates (NHP) and develop highly applicable skills that translate across multiple disciplines in a collaborative, healthy work environment.   This position offers a unique opportunity to provide services in both diagnostic pathology and research support. The Veterinary Pathologist performs and oversees post mortem examinations of NHP and prepares pathology reports (gross and microscopic) which include interpretation of clinical pathology, microbiology, and other ancillary test results. The position supports ONPRC researchers performing gross necropsies, histologic examination, and study review; by participating in study design and interpretation; and contributing to collaborative publications. The Veterinary Pathologists works closely with clinicians, providing diagnostic services through necropsy and biopsy evaluation. The pathology unit serves as a local and national resource for expertise in NHP pathology. Our archives provide decades of valuable resource to support publication and research pursuits, dedicated time for both is provided. The Veterinary Pathologist participates in the dissemination of findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals, scientific meeting presentations, virtual seminars and slide conferences, and innovative resources such as the Primate Pathology Image Database (PPID).  The pathology team works with the research and veterinary community through collaborative relationships with investigators, the National Primate Research Center Consortium Pathology Working Group and New Model Development Group, Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine and others, providing access to a large network of pathology and research expertise.   The Veterinary Pathologist will work with two Board Certified Veterinary Pathologists, each with over 25 years of experience in comparative pathology and expertise in nonhuman primates. ONPRC pathologists are exceptional mentors and are excited to welcome and share their expertise with another enthusiastic pathologist. The chosen candidate will have training and leadership opportunities at all career levels, including mentorship for the Veterinary Prosector, Necropsy Technicians and pre and post graduate veterinarians through campus externships and the Oregon State Laboratory Animal Residency Consortium (OSLAMRC). Qualified candidates will oversee a post graduate one-year training position in nonhuman primate pathology.   The successful candidate for this position will have experience working in a research and/or diagnostic veterinary environment. The pathologist will work well both as a team member and individually. The position requires excellent communication skills in written and oral formats. Prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and competing deadlines are essential parts of this position. The duties involve handling and processing of biological samples with potentially infectious agents including Macacine herpesvirus 1, working at Animal Biosafety Levels 2 and 3, and working with potentially hazardous chemical agents. While the Breast specialist has a specific focus, as a community hematologist oncologist the physicians are considered generalists and may see other patient types. The position includes primarily outpatient coverage, but on-call coverage across the group is required. This position is under the supervision of the Chair of the Department of Surgery and the Head of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery. The trauma, critical care and acute care surgeon shall be expected to perform clinical and basic science research. Duties will also include resident, fellow, student and staff teaching. This position requires undivided effort at the specified FTE.  The general pattern of working hours will be set by the Head of the Division, but deviations from general patterns may be necessary to meet projected requirements. The ideal candidate would have the potential to achieve independent federal research funding.

Reporting to the Sr. Associate Dean for Finance & Administration in the School of Medicine (SoM) and to the Sr. Associate Dean for Research, the position is responsible for administrative and financial management for the research mission in the School of Medicine. They will provide senior-level counsel and operational support to the Sr. Associate Deans and SoM Department Administrators with the purpose of ensuring that the research administrative, operational and financial services are provided in the most efficient and effective manner and with the highest integrity.   Under the direction of the Sr. Associate Dean for Research, assist in the development and implementation of strategic planning efforts for the research mission including the development of implementation plans and outcome measures.  This position will act as liaison between all research programs, SoM, CRO, Provost, etc. to represent and coordinate the needs and interest of research administration from Chairs and DA’s in the SoM in coordination with the SAD for Research.

Grant Planning and Development: - With minimal supervision, interprets sponsor guidelines and requirements. Grant submissions include NIH, DOD, foundation and industry-sponsored grants which may have multiple PIs, multiple institutions, and / or subcontracts. Independently liaisons with faculty, postdocs, grad students and other staff and faculty in other OHSU departments and other institutions to ensure that all appropriate pre-award administration, formatting, guidelines and rules have been implemented for timely and accurate submission of the department’s grants, projects and renewals. Prepares budgets and reviews applications for funding and processing. Drafts administrative components of the proposal including verification that all protocol information is in place for IACUC, IRB and IBC, and making sure all online courses are up to date and completed. Grant/Contract Coordination: - Serve as the lead for complex grants such as T32, U54, SPORE, P50, T90, etc. Coordinates and provides support to accounting, reporting, and other management requirements with grant recipients or contractors. Reviews plans / agreements, schedules, budgets, progress reports (RPPRs), or other grant / contract monitoring instruments to ensure contract or grant project / program performance. Identifies and resolves problems, assures appropriate and timely correction of grants administration and / or contract compliance issues. Independently coordinates proposal submissions. Discuss proposed resources (labor and non-labor). Draft administrative components of the proposal (including the budget and required subcontract documents) and coordinate submission to the sponsor with the Office of Proposal and Award Management (OPAM). Collaborates with the Department Administrator and Finance Administrator to develop and further optimize KCVI’s pre and post award workflows. Locate Funding: - Locates sources of available grant funds in published databases including InfoEd, Foundation Directory Online, grants.gov, RePORTER, American Heart Association, and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. Shares qualifying opportunities with faculty and research staff. Partners with investigators to locate funding based on a specific need or area of interest. Training and Mentoring: - Trains new and existing GCCs on OHSU resources, policies and procedures; InfoEd/Cognos use; OPAM standard operating procedures and service level agreement. Provides guidance on cost sharing, IDC rates. Provides oversite for all GCCs on complex grants (T32, U54, SPORE, P50, T90, etc.). Mentors other GCCs on resources and policies. Assists other basic science departments when back-up or additional GCC assistance is needed. Contract Coordination: - Translates program requirements into contract terms in consultation with management. Develops or ensures development of contract requirements containing quantifiable specification and measurable performance criteria. May use “Request for Proposal” to gather information from potential contractors to negotiate and clarify contract issues. May negotiate within contract service requirements limited to metrics, dates, and services provided. Composes contract wording and calculates contract payment rates and amounts. Technical Assistance: - Provides consultation, advice, and direction to all levels of OHSU staff regarding grant and contracting issues and methods which will best meet legal requirements and objectives. Safeguards the integrity of grant administration or contracted services and protects OHSU from financial losses due to adverse legal action or audit irregularities. Responds to requests for information from other agencies, other governmental entities, and the public. Develops guidelines for internal and public use relative to grant application and administration and / or contract compliance.
