The CEDAR Clinical Research Coordinator works with a team to manage and conduct early detection clinical trials in a diverse population. The Practice Manager participates in construction, tracking, and implementation of the annual budget and strategic plan. The Practice Manager supervises Back and Front Office Supervisors, RN’s and Behavorial Health staff along with all front and back-office staff directly or indirectly in a manner consistent with the philosophy and leadership of OHSU, Family Medicine and the Scappoose Health Center. The Practice Manager is on Call 24/7 for potential clinic and safety issues needing prompt attention. The Clinic is open 8-8 M-F and Saturdays 9AM-1PM.  Budget responsibility: 48 FTE, $8 million expenses, annual visits 35,000 for 12,500 patients.   1. Clinical Practice Management: - Develops, maintains, and implements practice policies and procedures. A key leader of transformative changes to the care delivery model as it is adapted to the rapidly changing health care environment.  Provides leadership on development and implementation of standards of practice. - Leads and participates on committees. Ensures practice compliance with regulatory requirements. - Oversees inventory of all supplies and equipment. - Serves as liaison in coordination of support services for practice operations. - Leads and/or assists with implementation of grants and projects. - Demonstrates knowledge of standards developed by organizations monitoring patient care including, but not limited to DNV and CLIA. This is a post-doctoral training program during which the trainee prepares to further their research career by gaining deeper understanding of the neuroscience of aging, including not only age-related neurodegenerative diseases, but also the clinical manifestations and basic neuroscience of so-called “normal aging.” It provides instruction in molecular, cellular, systems, and behavioral approaches to research on age-related changes of the nervous system, as well as experience with the clinical manifestations of aging and age-related neurodegenerative diseases.   The trainee will work closely with a primary mentor and appropriate research groups at OHSU while in the program. In addition, they will investigate the different aspects of neuroaging research through regular coursework, seminars, journal clubs, and cross-disciplinary laboratory and clinical research rotations as appropriate with faculty from across the OHSU campus. The trainee will be expected to plan and execute a research project under the supervision of the mentor and relevant faculty.

Customer Service: - Provide high quality customer service to both external customers (patients, referring providers, insurance carriers) and internal customers (OHSU health care providers, staff) that meets or exceeds the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face customer contact skills, crisis management, standard complaint processing, flexible coverage of internal and external service needs, and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills. Document accurately telephone calls from patients regarding requests for medication refills, complaints, general information inquiries, and urgent health care concerns.  Check patients in: - When the patient arrives for their appointment, the PAS greets the patients and confirm that an appointment has been kept. They will inspect insurance cards and/or authorization notices. Identify and collect deductible payments, co-payments, and deposits on services; provide receipts and complete necessary accounting procedures. Explain and satisfy any necessary patient signature requirements, verifies the demographics, Insurance, and appointment time. The PAS will also have the patient sign needed paperwork, and check the patient into the Epic Cadence system. The PAS may need to talk with the patient about Research Studies happening in the CWH, among other general information the patient may need. The PAS is also communicating with the Clinical Staff so they can communicate if Providers are running late, or need something additional from the patient. Schedule patient appointments: - The PAS also work in the Call Center within the CWH. In the Call Center, the PAS answers the incoming phone calls. They are scheduling appointments, sending in-basket and Telephone encounters to Nurse and Providers via the Epic system. They also will arrange patient transportation through OHSU's internal transportation systems when necessary and accommodate other special needs whenever possible (Language interpreters, Hearing impaired Interpreters, etc.). The PAS are also involved in obtaining prior medical records and images if appropriate. If needed, they follow-up and track requests for outside records.

Telecommunications: - Answers telephone and triages calls to determine urgency; leaves messages for appropriate care team members, and follows-up on telephone inquiries; directs callers to other faculty, staff or departments when appropriate. Triages and documents accurately telephone calls from patients including requests for medication refills, complaints, general information inquiries, and urgent health care concerns. Delivers such information or requests promptly to the appropriate providers or their designees. Faxes: - Receives reviews and distributes all facsimile communication. Ensures that urgent requests or faxes with reply deadlines are brought to the immediate attention of the faculty or staff member to whom the fax was sent. Arranged Care, Enrollment & Authorization: - Schedules new patient consults and follow up appointments; obtains prior medical records and studies if appropriate; gathers and/or verifies patient information including demographics, insurance coverage, and financial status; confirms patient eligibility for health care coverage and clarifies any managed care arrangements; obtains authorizations for clinical care, procedures, and laboratory studies; enters all information accurately into OHSU databases or into the medical record when necessary; follows up on pending authorizations until they are obtained; mails information packets; reminds patients when follow up appointments are due; obtains and prepares OHSU medical records before scheduled appointments. Integrated Care: - Arranges and orders associated clinical, diagnostic, or laboratory services; obtains authorizations when necessary. Directs patients to appropriate providers for other health care issues. Completes and routes direct referrals to other clinical services. Contacts primary care physicians or their designees to obtain authorizations for urgent care. Schedules return appointments on line, and manually if necessary; initiates authorization requests for subsequent care. Point of Service Operations: - Greets patients, confirms appointment is kept and accurately checking patients in, verifying demographics and referring providers, alerting back office staff of patient arrivals, collecting copays and deposits provides receipts and ensuring that patients complete all necessary paperwork. Also responsible for checking patients out, scheduling and rescheduling follow up appointments, connecting patients with other departments for diagnostic studies, setting recall plans for follow up and ensuring that all patients have been fully checked out by the end of the day.

Film and CD digitization and export - Determines appropriateness of importing both internal and external data/images into PACS per departmental policies. The ONPRC integrated pathology core (IPC) provides high-quality, state-of-the-art conventional and advanced histology, microscopy, and image analysis services and expertise to investigators and pathologists at the institutional, regional, and national level in support of research using NHP models in studies relevant to human health and disease. The IPC provides an integrated and comprehensive environment and infrastructure, working with investigators to meet their research pathology needs at all stages from project design through support of manuscript preparation. The IPC serves diverse research programs in neuroscience, reproductive and developmental biology, metabolic health and disease, and immunology and infectious disease in NHP models principally in support of NIH-funded studies, as well as the histology needs for diagnostic support of the ONPRC NHP colony. The IPC Histopathology section services include both standard and advanced sample preparation, embedding, sectioning, staining, and immunohistochemistry (IHC), as well as more state-of-the-art techniques such as RNA/DNA/BaseScope and multiplex IHC/ISH.   The IPC Histopathology section Manager provides general and specific oversight and management of the histopathology section of the IPC, which currently consists of the section manager, 3 histotechnologists and a research assistant 2 who all report to the section manager. The section manager reports to the interim IPC director, Dr. Charles Roberts, and also coordinates IPC operations with Dr. Srinivasan, manager of the microscopy section. In addition to oversight of general operations, this position will: - Work in cooperation with Interim IPC Director Dr. Charles Roberts and Manager of IPC Microscopy section, Dr. Sathya Srinivasan, to coordinate overall IPC services, including integration of analysis and tracking software platforms that comprise the interface between the histology and imaging components of the IPC - Implement and maintain centralized software system for service requests consistent with arrangement used by OHSU shared resources - Provide critical expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of histotechnology approaches, including advanced immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, digital pathology, and image analysis, for various research projects - Implement and develop new assays and approaches to provide continued state-of-the-art resources to investigators - Hire, train, and supervise research assistant/associate, and certified histologist-level employees, including up to 4 or more direct reports - Ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery of services.     The PMC RN completes telephone screenings and patient assessments in preparation for their anesthesia event.  The RN investigates, evaluates and makes recommendations based on a thorough chart review.   The goal of the phone visit is to provide a comprehensive review the patient’s medications, allergies, medical/surgical history, previous labs/tests and identify current medical issues/concerns that may need further evaluation/optimization prior to proceeding with surgery. After reviewing this data with the patient the RN then populates the Review of Systems in Epic.  This position requires an RN with effective professional communication skills and ability to collaborate with licensed providers including PMC staff, surgeons and anesthesiologists.     This position reports to the Nurse Manager of the PMC and supports the mission and standards of care of OHSU, PMC, and the Peri Op Division. The RN will be held accountable to the ANA standards of Nursing Practice. The Registered Nurse is expected to make sound decisions both independently and inter-dependently, the ability to integrate evidence-based practice into day to day care of the pre-operative patient is crucial to optimal outcomes. The RN utilizes education and training to develop, coordinated and supervise implementation of the nursing process. It is within the Registered Nurse’s Scope of Practice to assess potential or actual patient health problems and consult with LIP as necessary to address responsibilities, and to seek consultation when indicated. A postdoctoral position is available to work with a collaborative, international group of scientists to understand early pancreatic cancer biology. We are looking for an engaged, dedicated, and curious scientist to develop primary human pancreatic organoid lines to investigate the onset of early oncogenic phenotypes and interrogate mechanisms of interaction with the tumor microenvironment. This work will be informed by spatial profiling of normal, pre-malignant, and cancer tissues. The ideal candidate will have expertise in cell culture, preferably with organoid and/or 3D culture systems, as well as in a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques. This position is funded by a recent award through the international alliance for cancer early detection (ACED) in the lab of Dr. Ellen Langer. Dr. Langer’s group works within the Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research center at the Knight Cancer institute.
