The duties of this position include: Participation in the education of advanced education and dental students, establishment and maintenance of a program of scholarly activity. Specific responsibilities will focus on clinical and didactic teaching at the graduate and predoctoral level, participating in dental research, participating in strategic planning activities, and providing direct patient care.
The primary responsibilities will include test results interpretation and reporting, new test development, laboratory oversight with day-to-day management, and collaborative leadership with other Lab Directors. In addition to providing clinical service, the successful candidate will supervise and teach graduate and medical students, residents, and fellows, including those in our LGC fellowship. Opportunities for collaborative, and independent, research abound. Our Lab Directors are integral partners in our clinical service teams.
The Knight Diagnostic Laboratories (KDL) that comprise the clinical genetics and genomics labs have a national reputation for innovation, excellence, and personalized testing modalities. OHSU's Genetics Labs have been serving the region and nation for over 50 years offering prenatal, postnatal, and oncology testing. We are dedicated to patient care, research, education, and community service to improve the health and well-being of all Oregonians.
Clinical: Serve as co-director of the cytogenetics and molecular laboratories. These laboratories are established in cooperation with the OHSU Hospital and OHSU Knight. These areas provide staffing, management and oversight of the labs. Part of the duties for this position is working together to maintain optimum working efficiency, develop new tests, and improve the financial outcomes.
Education: OHSU is a teaching facility and you will be expected to teach medical students, graduate students, residents, and fellows in the laboratory setting, as well as through assigned lectures. You will receive your teaching assignments from the Department Chair.
Research: There are resources available for start-up research and on-going support. Faculty interested in doing research may apply for departmental research assistance and non-clinical time through the Department Chair.
Administration: Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest. There will be opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.

Clinical Duties:
- Provision of outpatient and inpatient clinical duties in the Allergy and Immunology Section of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, as assigned by the Division Head. Responsibilities may include proficiency in treating both common and complex allergic and immunologic disorders in both inpatient and outpatient practice. The provider may also be required to spend part of their clinical time at nearby satellite locations in the Portland metro region. There will be opportunities to lead and coordinate the development of multi-disciplinary clinics in food allergy, asthma, atopic dermatitis, and severe sinus disease.
Administrative, Educational and Academic Duties:
- There are no specific administrative responsibilities assigned at this time. Educational responsibilities include presenting at and otherwise participating in division grand rounds and other conferences and may include teaching residents and medical students. Care Planning:
- Assesses patients for psychosocial and transitional care needs and participates in developing patient-centered care plan.
- Assists patient in identifying goals and recognizing associated behavioral modifications.

- Providing higher level teaching and mentorship on assessment and resources availability to hospital and community based social workers, nurses and physicians.
Interface with insurance companies:
- Must be highly knowledgeable of insurance coverage needs, requirements and processes, including: facilitating prior authorizations and be able to provide clinical justification and documentation when needed.
- Submits complex care need requests for flex funding with clinical rationale.
- Required to be able to navigate both the physical and behavioral-based insurance care needs.
Data
Quality improvement:
- Maintain independent preparation of data, design and collection in collaborating with teammates on an ongoing basis to evaluate program effectiveness.
- Solicits feedback from patients, interdisciplinary colleagues, and community partners to improve service delivery.
- Work to add to the overall knowledge of the hospital staff to have the needed expertise to engage in care to a population that can face barriers in engagement and have resounding care needs.
- Facilitates patient movement through the OHSU system, coordinates and facilitates quality related throughput, and balances need for services that are both financially viable and effective.
Educational Training
Education:
- Maintains active clinical licensure and obtains required CEUs.
- Participates in continuing education as a learner but also accepts opportunities to provide cross-disciplinary education via rounds, committees, conferences, and presentations when relevant opportunities arise
- Provide psychoeducation to patients and/or their families, and providers that we directly work with.
- Offer coaching, mentoring, training to medical, nursing and social worker students, as well as to fellow colleagues and peers at OHSU. This training is focused on resources availability but also in clinical delivery of care with population with complex care needs.
