Position is responsible for conducting data analyses, as directed, of existing survey datasets pertaining to service quality, health and well-being of individuals with disabilities.
- Analyze existing datasets (e.g., National Survey of Family Growth; Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System) using Stata or other appropriate statistical software.
- Work with supervisor to prepare data summaries and reports presenting findings of analyses.
Obtain and record patient's chief complaint, history of illness, past ocular history, family history, drug allergies, systemic illness and medications; measure and record distance and near vision, in adults and children, with and without correction; measure corneal curvature; perform color vision testing; perform lensometry, multifocal adds; Set up ophthalmic examination rooms; assist patients in clinic area; assist doctors during examination as needed; prepare for and assist minor surgeries; perform refractometry, retinoscopy, fogging with asthmatic dials, obtain comprehensive ocular motility movements; stereopsis tests, perform contact lens over refractions, check intraocular pressure (tonopen or by applanation tonometry), BAT, pupil assessment, scribing for providers, assist/back-up in the laser center and other assigned responsibilities in the laser suite, work as a crucial team member and teamwork, other ancillary testing as needed.
Exhibit initiative and teamwork in performing all daily tasks. Provides high quality customer service to patients, OHSU faculty and referring providers, to include PCP’s and their office staff, and co-workers and staff as well as setting an example in training new employees and assisting in other divisions as needed. Maintains a high standard of patient interactions skills and is exemplary in addressing patient complaints when necessary.
Perform ASEDS ordering and educating patients, exam lane stocking, and all other assigned duties as needed.
Have knowledge of and be able to practice JCAHPO clinical guidelines. Participate in continuing education courses and activities and maintain JCAHPO certification.
Triage patient calls. Apply eye dressings, protective shields and safety glasses; as directed by physician, pend drugs; clean contact lenses.
Obtains prior-authorization for on and off-label medications prescribed by providers. If authorization is denied, works with the provider to go through the appeals process and arranges peer-to-peer review as needed.
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Unity Center for Behavioral Health provides mental health care to patients in the Psychiatry Emergency Services unit for overnight shifts. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
- The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP) will practice in a high-volume emergency setting providing emergency assessment and treatment to patients with psychiatric and/or substance use disorders.
- The PMH-NP promotes mental health in a trauma-informed manner through the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of behavioral problems, mental disorders, and comorbid conditions for adults.
- The care of these patients is coordinated with a team of professionals that may include a physician, nurse, crisis intervention specialist, and peer support.
- The PMH-NP will follow Scope & Standards of Practice set forth by the American Psychiatric Nurse Association (APNA) and International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (ISPN) with approval from American Nurses Association (ANA).
- Candidates must be comfortable with the interface between medical and psychiatric illnesses and be able to prescribe treatment accordingly.
- Duties will include the evaluation and treatment of patients including but not limited to performing initial and follow up psychiatric assessments ; conduct in-depth interviews with patients to develop a plan of care; assists in the coordination of appropriate follow up care, referrals and case management; initiating, renewing and changing medications; providing education and training to the patient and family as necessary; this is a teaching hospital and training learners from all specialties is an important part of the job.

Reviews provider schedules and Member/patient charts to assist the care team in coordinating care for visits and through this process identifying preventive health care needs. Schedules Members/patients for preventive care needs and follow-up to ensure completion of services.
2. Serves as an effective communication link between the Member, the practice clinical staff and the Care Integration and Coordination Program by gathering information from the Member. Providing face-to-face and telephonic outreach in assisting the member access services and resources in navigating the health care system. Completes Member Outreach calls and basic assessments, which includes assessment of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) needs. Composes and prepares confidential correspondence, reports and related materials to support the care coordination process.
3. Collaborates closely with the Care Integration and Coordination team in facilitating care coordination referrals and access to services as may be indicated for the Member, focusing on gaps in care and identified strategies for specific Member populations including those with serious, complex or chronic health problems or with psychosocial issues. Participates in team huddles and team meetings as requested.
4. Collaborates closely with the Member’s medical and health community-based providers (this may include specialist provider, behavioral specialists, or others as may be indicated) to help facilitate the Member’s plan of care being followed. The frequency of contact is determined based on the Member’s risk acuity ranking and clinical need. Fosters positive and professional relationships and acts as a liaison with internal and external customers to ensure effective working relationships.
5. Routinely documents all Member interactions and Member engagements in the EMR to ensure a longitudinal record is maintained of all Member interactions; and, collects clinical and engagement data and enters information into the electronic medical record (EMR) (or departmental tool) for tracking and metric purposes. Maintains medical record confidentiality at all times through the proper use of computer passwords, maintenance of secure files; adherence to HIPAA guidelines and policies.
6. Ensures day-to-day processes are conducted in accordance with nationally accepted standards (NCQA, URAC and other regulatory standards) and in accordance with Health Share of Oregon/Oregon Health Authority contract requirements. Serves on the medical home quality improvement team, assists with improvement of workflows through PSA cycles and measurement of quality indicators, as indicated/requested.
7. Utilizes proper telephone and personal etiquette and judicious use of other verbal and written communications, following OHSU and OHSU Health Services policies, procedures and guidelines. Follows OHSU and OHSU Health Services telecommuting policies and procedures as a member of the field-based staff.
Providing optometric eye care services and staffing support to General Ophthalmology and the Contact Lens Service at the Casey Eye Hood River and The Dalles satellite clinics. General Ophthalmology duties include support of general adult eye clinic.
Professional education: assist with professional education events and courses presented by ophthalmologists, optometrists and other allied health professionals.
