The Gastroenterologist provides patient care in the Gastroenterology ambulatory clinics and endoscopy with an opportunity to subspecialize, if interested. You will also rotate an attending physician on GI consult service where you would also teach medical students, residents, and GI fellows.
Clinical Responsibilities:

You will work as a specialist in Infectious Diseases (ID) within the Department of Medicine, with clinical duties as assigned by the Division Head. Your clinical responsibilities will include both inpatient and outpatient service. The proportion of service time spent in each of these areas may vary depending on available staffing within the Division. Inpatient consultation time may include general ID consultation services at OHSU the Portland VA, and Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC), and/or an OHSU/VA Transplant ID service - for a total of 19 weeks per year, which includes day, night and weekend coverage. Inpatient consult rotations at HMC and the other services will not overlap.

The provider will be involved in eight half days with direct patient care, and the supervision of students and other university learners at the Cascades East Family Medicine Center. A half of a work day is provided for administration and a half of a work day is provided for scholarly activities. The expected work week for this position will be flexible with rotating Saturdays and some of the weekday hours would be in the evening.

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research): Assure the safe, efficient, high-quality quality and patient-centered management of care to patients with vascular disease, including but not limited to completing a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s status; developing, monitoring, and revising, as appropriate, an evidence-based treatment plan that addresses diagnoses, patterns of disease, risk factors, and treatment alternatives; treat many common acute and chronic health problems; interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe and manage medications and other therapies, provide health teaching with an emphasis on prevention of illness and health maintenance; and, refer patients to other healthcare professionals as necessary.

This position is under the direct supervision of the OHSU Senior SP Trainer and in partnership with the MRISC Operations Director. The duties include: portrayal of various clinical roles for educational purposes; help set up and put away the supplies for OHSU Simulation activities for faculty and student use; participate in simulation scenarios and OSCEs as an actor or in assisting to check students off of competencies. Help with other projects that facilitate learning activities for OHSU Simulation.
Clinical responsibilities will include interpretation of all aspects of thoracic (CT/MR and radiographs) and cardiac imaging (CT and MR); as well as thoracic biopsies/aspirations. Familiarity with imaging of acquired and congenital heart diseases and imaging of minimally invasive techniques in the adult population is expected. Familiarity with cardiac imaging in the pediatric patient population would be desirable. Participation in numerous excellent weekly interdisciplinary conferences is expected. Educational responsibilities will include teaching at all levels commensurate with a large academic center, including medical student, resident and fellow training.
